(Round played: Apr 2016 - Score: 96 Handicap: 15.2)
The masters course at Woodlands has been a 14 hole course for a couple of year as it is undergoing a redesign. However due to the continued development of the course 3 new holes have been added and some of the older holes are being redesigned but it is remaining open as a 9 hole course for the value of £10 which is pretty good value.
The first three holes are new and are technically interesting holes. Two Par5s and one par 3 all have water and it gives us a taste of what the masters’ course will be like in the future which is exciting because these three holes are rather nice. The only downfall is that the 3rd hole which is a par 5 is only 421 yards which is very short for a par 5 and rather void of serious hazards; I felt a bit silly hitting my second shot into the green with a 7 iron which I hit shorter than 150 yards. But you are met with a green which is heavily tiered and the other two holes you can easily hit double figures on, so maybe a birdie opportunity is nice.
The course as I have stated before could do with yardage marker posts on the edge of the fairways to save players searching for blue/yellow/red discs in the middle of the fairway which you need to be on top of to see. This would help speed up play for those which don’t have fancy laser distance gadgets. The course also lacks bins so I would avoid taking to much food packaging on the course. However it is a lovely undulating course where you have to hit over streams and small valleys making it one of the technically more challenging course in the area. I really can’t wait for when this course is finished as it might be the best reasonably priced course in the south west.

Go and Play here!
The Signature is the more playable course and has some striking holes, requiring more accuracy than anything else. The more Masters makes the most of water and deep ditches, plenty of risk and reward here, I would say it tests lengths and finesse the most.Above all THE BEST GREENS you can imagine for the price you pay!
