Decent course, good value

Greens excellent, pace of play excellent. Fairway condition lets the course down. Albeit would require significant investment to sort. Therefore cost/value option.

On arrival we headed to the pro shop and were met by the resident pro who was very helpful to our questions and even threw in a free pitch repairer to each of us. The practice facilities were good and the putting green was so immaculate that we didn't want to step on it.
The layout of the course is very good and it has a very relaxing scenic attitude about it. Fairways and greens were very good but the bunkers did disappoint in that they were inconsistent and stoney.( Thankfully I only hit two).
After finishing we headed to the clubhouse and the friendliness of the staff was exceptional. The pleasant surroundings of the courtyard where we ate and drank finished off what was a superb day and we will be returning there in the very near future.

Overall Course condition and greens were very good - bunkers were shockingly bad though and more than usual best avoided.

Very tidy course

If you take away nothing else from this review then take this: The fairway you see as you stand at the 1st tee is NOT the 1st fairway. It looks like it should be, but it isn't. The one you want is actually the one to right of that, the one that looks like it shouldn't be. Also, the 5th tee is to the right of 4th tee. You'll be glad of that information as you wander around the 4th green wondering where to go next.

There's at least one more instance where the next tee isn't especially obvious (after playing the 8th), but I don't want to suggest that Carswell is a negative experience because it really isn't. This is a very tidy, easy walking course, that's quite scenic in places. The tees are in great condition, the greens look like being a cut away from being very good too. The fairways seem to get a little narrower on the back 9, but none are really what you would call tight. The bunkers aren't the best, some had grass growing in them, and some looked like you'd struggle to get a rake to go through them, but keep out of them and you don't have to care what they're like.

The clubhouse has been converted out of an old farmhouse, and it certainly compliments the course. The welcome at the pro shop was very pleasant, and the club has all the practise facilities you could ask for.

The question to ask is would you come back and play here again, and the answer here is a definite 'yes'.

Very welcoming, would be nice to visit in better weather

Visited this course on New Year’s Eve. Despite it being a Sunday morning they were happy to take an advanced group booking and even got staff in early to make the bacon butties and brews. Unfortunately there had been a lot of rain over the Christmas period and around two thirds of the course was on temp greens (we did get a small discount because of this though on an already very good value round). Layout is very good with a good variety of holes and the round was still very enjoyable with the course in good condition considering the weather. One of the most welcoming clubs I have been too and I would definitely like to visit it again in better weather.
