Reader Review - Bushnell Tour X Laser

By: Golf Shake | Fri 07 Aug 2015

When it comes to Lasers, Bushnell have been in the market from the very beginning and are proving as popular as ever amongst golfers. We recently got our hands on the Bushnell Tour X laser and sent Golfshake reader Bruce Varga out on the Belfry's Brabazon course to test.

What Bushnell Say

Slope Technology when you want it, tournament legal when you need it.

A Tour X exclusive, Exchange Technology lets you use our patented Slope Technology when the red faceplate is installed and functions as a USGA conforming device when the black faceplate is installed.

Dual Display Technology allows the user to easily toggle between the bright red Vivid Display or sharp black display based on lighting conditions or personal preference.

Bruce Varga's Review (5 Handicap)

Looks

The Bushnell Tour X range finder is sleek, ergonomic in the hand and certainly the most appealing looking range finder on the market, it has a  level of elegance and class that in my opinion sets it aside from other range finders on the market.

Feel

The Bushnell Tour X Range Finder is by far the easiest to hold that I have used to date.  I have quite small hands and this did not hinder the operation in the slightest, just as my playing partner had much larger hands and also found the ergonomics to suit him just as well.

With a soft skin feel when being held, it not only sits nicely in the hand, but there is also the feeling of protection as this rubber outer default provides a sense of additional protection to the Bushnell.  Additionally the carry case is superbly designed to, when fully unzipped, only open enough, like a jaw, to extract the Range Finder and slide it back into it's protective carry case.  Thus preventing the often seen unzip and drop of many range finders from their cases.

Performance

Simply......GAME CHANGING!  The Bushnell Range Finder was instrumental in so many club changes and selections.  When playing to elevated. hidden greens, to get a pin accurate yardage was key.  The sloped lens also made club adjustments for inclines and declines very simply and took shots of my round.

I would not visit a new course without the Bushnell Range Finder as a caddy companion, but also the difference on my club selection on my home courses has been significantly instrumental in better course management, hazard avoidance off the tee, shot choice and approach accuracy to the green.

Often we blame putting for a bad round, but if your targeting a pin and getting to within 20 feet on every approach in accuracy, you soon come to realise the poor shots were the wayward approaches, not the 50 foot putts you were left trying to hole after. "

Pros

So many.....The confidence of club choice, better hazard awareness and
much improved course management, which is a very understated part of the game in my opinion.

It instantly increases accuracy to the flag in approach shots and this in turn removes the doubt of club selection, after the initial few holes where you are learning to trust the Bushnell Range Finder.

Cons

For me the only con was having to take it in and out of the bag all the time. I did have a a trolley and feel that included in the packaging, for the price, could have been a simply trolley clip or holder to give something more secure to attach it to.
I was loathed to clip the carry case to the side of my bag and watch it bounce around, so placed it inside a pocket.

The Bottom Line

If you are a dedicated golfer and determined to lower your score through improved course management and accuracy, not just to greens, but in lay-ups, targets off the tee and hazard avoidance, this is the tool for you.

It is not cheap, but is not a one round wonder either and the return on investment for me, pound for pound, is greater than any other golf peripheral on the market.

Bruce's Rating - 9/10
