John Letters' 47-Yard Challenge Returns For 2014

By: Golf Shake | Mon 16 Jun 2014

Scotish clubmaker, John Letters, is to re-introduce its ‘TR47 Challenge' for the 2014 season after its resounding success last year.

The TR47 range launched in 2013 and proved immensely popular with customers who were especially keen to see if the brand lived up to its slogan ‘47 yards longer or your money back'. More than 500 golfers took the challenge in 2013 at John Letterstheir nearest Direct Golf store, and, as Direct Golf's Chris Clarke explained, not one took up the offer of a refund.

"Indeed, we did not have one request for a refund, with everybody finding greater length across their bag with the John Letters TR47 line," he said.

"The reason the club was so successful was because of its quality. We went with the slogan ‘47 yards longer or your money back' because we had huge confidence the product could live up to the claim - and so far we've been proved correct."

The 2.2mm thin face on the TR47 irons combine with a classic look, Project X high-end steel shaft and the UST Mamiya low torque grip, to give the irons unparalleled distance and feel. The set also gives the customer the option of the increasingly popular hybrids in the longer clubs which aids performance for most golfers.

What's more, the TR47 set - comprising nine clubs, with a three and four hybrid and five-iron to sand wedge - sits cheaper than many brands at just £399.

The range of woods has also proved popular, with sales of the driver and fairway woods exceeding expectations last year - especially the 13 and 15 degree options, which make it much easier for many golfers to use a driver. The driver's beta titanium face combines with a lightweight UST V2 Shaft to afford maximum distance and forgiveness - and all for just £149.

Clarke added: "The TR47 iron is the best-selling iron in the 96-year history of John Letters and was also acclaimed as the best-performing iron in many magazine reviews. During 2014 we will once again be encouraging customers to take the ‘TR47 Challenge' to see if they can gain 47 extra yards across the whole set against their current irons.

"We even have a ‘league table' on our website showing who has gained the most yards across their entire bag, with the current leader standing at a quite staggering 200 yards - and who wouldn't want to be able to hit 200 yards further with their set of clubs?

"And, as they say in all the best game shows, nobody walks away empty handed, as, just for taking the challenge, each customer will be given a John Letters baseball cap worth £14.99."

John Letters has been producing golf clubs since 1918 and many prestigious golfers have used the brand, including former Open champions Fred Daly, Paul Lawrie, Lee Trevino and Gary Player, Ryder Cup captains Dai Rees, Sam Torrance and Bernard Gallacher, and the current European Senior Tour order of merit winner Paul Wesselingh.
