Callaway enjoy winning start to 2014 with Reed and Larrazabal

By: | Mon 20 Jan 2014

Larrazabal Patrick Reed

Callaway Staff Professionals Pablo Larrazábal and Patrick Reed made it a January to remember for both themselves and the brand who have just re-launched one of the most succesful drivers of all time.  Both carried the new Big Bertha Alpha Driver and Speed Regime 3 Golf Balls while securing victories in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and California, USA, respectively.

Thirty-year-old Larrazábal, from Barcelona, clinched victory with a birdie on the 72nd hole to overcome an overnight deficit Pablo larrazabalof three shots and card a near-faultless final round of 67 to become the first Spanish player to win the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship.

In his victory speech, Larrazábal was quick to acknowledge the impact of his new equipment. He said: “I want to thank so many people, starting with my brand Callaway – they set up the best driver I could ever hit, the Big Bertha Alpha. I’m hitting it 20 to 25 metres longer now.”

He added: “I’m a lot straighter, and that makes a lot of difference on this type of golf course.”

The Spaniard’s final score of 14-under-par edged out fellow Callaway Staff Professional and Open Champion, Phil Mickelson, who, also carrying the new Big Bertha Alpha Driver, finished in tied-second position just one shot behind.

Meanwhile, after breaking the PGA Tour scoring record for 54 holes with three consecutive rounds of nine-under, 23-year-old Reed, held an overnight lead of seven-shots coming into the final day of the Humana Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation

After closing out his second PGA Tour win with a final round of one-under, 71, Reed said: “I’m a totally different golfer than last year at this time. I have Callaway equipment now. The new equipment’s been amazing and I absolutely love it.”
