Race for Ryder Cup spots nearly complete

The race is almost run, the Europen Ryder Cup team will be finalised in two weeks time when the final qualifying event at Gleneagles is completed. The top 5 from the European points list and the top 5 World points list will qualify automatically with European team captain Jose Maria Olazabal completing the team with his 2 captains picks on the 26th of August.

Ian Poulter made a big move following his top 5 finish at the USPGA Championship and now occupies the final spot on the world points list.

Current European Team:Ian Poulter is now in an Automatic spot

Martin Kaymer

Graeme McDowell

Peter Hanson

Justin Rose

Francesco Molinari

Paul Lawrie

Following the conclusion of the USPGA the automatic spots for the American team were confirmed. The USA have 8 spots available and their captain, Davis Love has 4 picks to make up their team of 12. He will choose the final 4 players on September 3rd.

The 8 Automatic qualifiers for the USA are:

Keegan Bradley

Jason Dufner

Zach Johnson

Webb Simpson
