De Vere Wychwood Park Hosts Up-and-Coming Stars At European Tour Qualifying School
De Vere Wychwood Park played host to the future stars of the European Tour, as some of Europe’s most promising professionals and top amateurs embarked on their journey towards the games top flight. Three members of this year’s victorious 2011 GB&I Walker Cup team, Michael Stewart, Jack Senior and Steven Brown, were amongst the headline acts to tee up at the First Stage of the European Tour Qualifying School, held at the stunning Cheshire venue. A host of notable players including Walker Cuppers Senior and Brown, as well as Zane Scotland, a winner on the EuroPro Tour
at Wychwood Park in 2010, successfully finished among the top-27 players and progress to the next stage of ‘Q-School’.
Despite tough weather conditions, the course was presented in immaculate condition, evidenced by the fantastic scoring of eventual winner Steve Uzzell, 2008 Brabazon Trophy Champion. With a closing-round of 71 for a 4-round total of 279 (-9), Uzzell led the qualifiers that also included two-time NCAA Team Champion Patrick Reed, and two players trying to regain their playing rights at Europe’s highest level, Iain Pyman and john E. Morgan.
“This is the second year we’ve hosted the European Tour School and we’re delighted to be given the European Tour’s seal of approval. The course has been in great shape all-year and the players have had nothing but praise throughout the week. There’s been some fantastic golf played in tough conditions and we wish all of those that have qualified the best of luck as they continue in their journey towards the European Tour’s riches!” commented Jon Farmer, Director of Golf at Wychwood Park.

Scotsman Duncan Stewart was victorious when the EuroPro Tour visited for the 2011 ABC Solutions UK Championship. Unfortunately for Stewart, he was one of the players to miss out on a spot in the next stage of Qualifying School, as was his namesake and the third member of this year’s triumphant Walker Cup to tee it up at Wychwood Park, Michael Stewart.
