Royal Albartross to Complete the Ensemble at Trilby Tour Event

By: Darren Ramowski | Mon 16 May 2011

Royal Albartross - MookaThe world’s most exclusive golf shoe will be on display at Old Thorns Manor Hotel Golf & Spa, Hampshire, next week, with a limited number of pairs available at £1,000 each.

The burgeoning William Hunt Trilby Tour makes a visit to leafy Hampshire next Wednesday (May 18) with the second of 10 qualifying rounds. And the handmade Italian Mooka shoes, which will be on display throughout, are the perfect complement to the sartorial elegance provided by all the William Hunt apparel.

The Mooka is just one of the styles available from Royal Albartross, which has an A-list celebrity following – and each of the limited edition pairs will put school shoes on the feet of 20 poverty stricken children in South Africa. Mooka shoes therefore offer exceptional comfort while providing a warm feeling all over.

The two unique black or white styles are named Themba, meaning ‘hope’ and iNjabulo, meaning ‘joy’. For each pair sold, a donation of £200 will go to the Bobs for Good Foundation which gives South African children hope, dignity and pride through a new pair of school shoes, when they would otherwise risk injury walking miles, in bare feet, to local schools.

A leading cause of illness in developing countries is soil-transmitted disease, which can penetrate the skin through bare feet. Wearing shoes can help prevent these diseases, and the long-term physical and cognitive harm they cause. Often, children can not attend school in bare feet because shoes are a required part of their uniform. If they do not have shoes, they do not go to school. And if they do not receive an education, they do not have the opportunity to realise their potential.

The Royal Albartross brand also has a strong and fiercely defended policy of being animal-friendly and has chosen to stock these unique golf shoes with a clear conscience that the Nguni hides come as a by-product of the meat industry where these cattle are bred and slaughtered primarily for food and not for their beautiful hides.

The water-resistant, soft and supple leather uppers of the Mooka have a stunning Nguni hair-on-calf leather trim. The soft, breathable leather linings and extra collar padding are free of any stitching which might cause discomfort.

Every Royal Albartross golf shoe is crafted using traditional hand tools and carefully preserved techniques and requires more than 250 tasks including stitching the leather, moulding and compressing the upper on to the last and attaching the cleated sole. The secret lies in the choice of superior materials and secret combinations.

Film star Dougray Scott and model Jodie Kidd are big fans of the Royal Albartross brand.

Scott, who starred opposite Kate Winslet in Enigma and was the arch-villain in Mission Impossible II with Tom Cruise, described the brand as “… a brilliant, classic golf shoe with a contemporary twist”.

And Kidd thought they were “… fantastic shoes – supremely comfortable and stable”.

The Mooka is just one design in a range of high-quality golf shoes from Royal Albartross, with prices starting at £355 per pair.

If you miss them at Old Thorns, the shoes can be ordered via the Royal Albartross website or through the pro shop at Wentworth. www.albartross.com
