Mendip Golf Club - Senior Captain Drives In
Chris Bryant, 2011 Seniors' Captain at The Mendip Golf Club, has always reckoned himself to be lucky. He proved it yet again last week when over fifty competitors played in his 'drive-in'.
The recent sub-zero temperatures disappeared for a few hours, the sun shone and the fairways were back on view.
Head Greenkeeper, Richard Flower, had swept the greens for a 'shotgun' bowmaker and individual stableford competition and scores were remarkably good.
Chrissie Bryant, Margaret Hawker, Elaine Richardson and Sylvia Stephenson braved the chill weather to provide hot food and drink at two food stations.
Sandy Keen, Roger Wickett, Terry Linthorne and Martin Lambert won the team prize with 89 points, just one point better than Jeff Hodder, Michael Clark, David Stevenson and Harry Thompson.
Mike Smith, John Hargraves and Jeff McKay won the three nearest-the-pin prizes on the short holes and Brian Barton and Roger Hill guessed the length of the Captain's drive exactly, 210 yards.
All the individual winners were tightly grouped but the first three had to be separated on countback. Alan Evans-Jones (2nd) and Terry Linthorne (3rd) were beaten on 38 points by long-time stalwart of the Seniors' section, Gerry Jestico. Well done to all that took part and supported Chris on the day.
