Aroeira Golf Resort Acknowledged as one of Europe’s Best

By: | Mon 29 Nov 2021

Aroeira Pines Classic continues to rise in its bid to return to the summit of both Portuguese and European golf as the complex gains further momentum after becoming one of the biggest movers in a new poll of the 100 best courses in Europe.

Having hosted the Portuguese Open on two occasions – in both 1996 and 1997 – the venue gains additional traction after a period of substantial investment has resulted in Aroeira climbing to 77th place in Golf World’s renewed list of the ‘Top 100 Golf Courses in Continental Europe.’

The golf courses that feature on the list must past stern tests from six categories: design, setting, memorability, playability, consistency and presentation – and Aroeira Pines Classic scored strongly across the board.

Aroeira Golf Course

Golf World noted on the inclusion: “A strong position for the layout, which is the better of two courses at this resort on the outskirts of Lisbon.

“It winds between avenues of tall pines and there is a wonderful tranquillity to a game here; small targets and the odd water hazard keep you focused. Often underrated. It shouldn’t be.”

Previously known for being Aroeira before the rebranding that took place in spring, Aroeira Pines Classic, designed by Frank Pennick, saw a full revamp during the lockdown period which saw upgrades to the condition of the tees, fairways and greens.

Furthermore, its clubhouse was given a fresh design, new kitchen facilities have been installed, changing rooms have been refurbished and complementing the golfing facilities are a superb collection of accommodation options – including the recently-unveiled Aroeira Lisbon Hotel.

The site is managed and operated by ORIZONTE – Portugal’s largest golf management company – and the complex boasts two outstanding 18-hole championship golf courses.

ORIZONTE commercial director, José Maria Cazal-Ribeiro, noted: “Aroeira Pines Classic has a proud history having been privileged to host two Portuguese Opens, and we’re thrilled to see it given the position it deserves in the new ranking.

“It is one of Portugal’s best-known and popular golf courses and we’re confident that, with a new identity and the recent investment that we’ve made, it will continue to move on to bigger and better things in the future.”

Off-season Savings

In addition to its stupendous two 18-hole layouts, Aroeira Golf Resort has rapidly become a popular hotspot for winter retreats for golfers.

The complex has been rated among the continent’s top 50 golf resorts and ORIZONTE are offering a new off-season promotion for the price of €344 per person.

Included in the deal is a four-night stay and three rounds at either of the two championship courses that reside on the site.

Nicknamed the ‘Wentworth of Lisbon’ by many visitors, Aroeira – situated 25 km south of Lisbon – is one of the country’s most iconic golfing venues.

This deal is available for groups of four or more from December 1 to February 28, 2022, and the packages feature rounds on Aroeira Pines Classic and Aroeira Challenge, with bed-and-breakfast accommodation at the stylish Aroeira Lisbon Hotel.

Golf buggies are available for hire, free range balls are issued before rounds and a welcome bottle of wine is also included within the bundle.

If golfers wish to upgrade to semi-inclusive, they will be entitled to free drinks from 5:30 pm – 11:00 pm for €30 extra a day.
