OCEANTEE Launches Sustainable Women's Golf Clothing

By: Golfshake Editor | Thu 19 Nov 2020

OCEANTEE is bringing its sustainable products to a new audience, launching its female golf clothing line, created in conjunction with the Sustainable Angle, offering luxurious fabrics, which are also biodegradable, and that contribute to marine conversation charities with every purchase.

Every aspect of the range from fabrics and processes to packaging and delivery has been carefully considered to ensure that the entire manufacturing chain is as environmentally friendly as possible. Whilst sustainability is the driver of the business, performance, style and playability are also a priority.

The Mako polo shirt, which is named after an endangered shark, comes in a choice of OCEANTEE blues with a contrasting blue placket. The fabric used to make the Mako is the same as the award-winning men’s version and is unique to OCEANTEE.

The polo has a tailored fit that minimises excess fabric and has the necessary length and stretch to accommodate a powerful swing when worn tucked in or over trousers and skorts. This performance feature was an area highlighted by the focus group and has been welcomed by the women who have tried the garments on course.

GOTS certified organic cotton has been blended with ROICA-Eco Smart; the world’s first biodegradable elastane. This is the only elastane worldwide to be certified as non-eco toxic under the Hohenstein Institute and to hold the Cradle to Cradle Innovation Institute GOLD Standard. This means that at the end of its natural life the product will biodegrade with little impact to the environment.

To accompany the Mako polo, OCEANTEE has added the Silvertip sweater. This also features the ROICA-Eco Smart elastane which means you can enjoy freedom of movement combined with a deluxe brushed cotton finish. The Silvertip sweater has been designed to compliment the polo range and has been cut to sympathetically to move through the golf swing.

Ed Sandison, Founder of OCEANTEE, is determined to encourage the golf industry to think differently about the way it produces products across the board and is proud to offer a women’s range that is complimentary and equal to its men’s collection. He explains: “OCEANTEE combines my two passions golf and the ocean. As a former marine conservationist I know first-hand the impact of plastic pollution. Most sports clothing uses plastic fabrics, but with new innovations such as ROICA Eco-Smart performing equally well there really is no need for the industry to carry on using them. Our ethos is to be fair and ethical which means that our sustainable clothing range will cater for women just as well as it does for men.”

All of OCEANTEE’s garments are manufactured in Europe in the only factory in the world to have so far met the textiles procurement standard set by Greenpeace. Under the standard, organically farmed natural fibres, harmful substances, fair pay and transparency are uniquely combined. OCEANTEE also donates 25% of corporate profits to marine conservation charities dedicated to combatting plastic pollution, leaving customers feeling great in every sense.
