How Important are your divots and what can they tell you?

By: Yorkshire Golf Coach | Mon 09 Oct 2017 | Comments ()

There seems to be a myth around divots in golf and what they are able to tell the golfer about their swing and typically their swing path. However, PGA professional Ryan Metcalfe assures you on the actual information a divot can give you instead of the myths that are referred to by other golfers.

Metcalfe believes the only real information you can achieve from looking at your divot is whether the strike is ball first and divot after, or that you are striking the ball heavy or fat and taking a divot first.

The typical thought of most people is that if there divot is going left or right that it means that there club path is going in that respective direction. This is the myth that Ryan Metcalfe speaks about, the correlation between these two thoughts can easily be misenterpreted causing the golfer to try and correct a fault that might not neccessarily be a problem.
