Tricky Front Nine

Tricky front nine, nice course layout and a challenge to golfers of any standard. Unfortunately due to lack of rain the course fairways were a bit brown and not in great condition which spolit it a little but overall good.

Very unforgiving first nine holes, with plenty of surrounding water to swallow up golf balls. The second nine, although quite hilly give some relief from the wet stuff. Enjoyable to play, greens in good condition and quite fast, fairways a little dried out with lack of rain recently, but no problem with lies. Need to play a couple of times to get to know the course!

Played while staying at Isla Canela, walked the course and is easy although last few holes are more hilly. First few holes have plenty of water so you need a course guide to assess the length of carries etc. The last few holes play better and are more enjoyable so dont walk off after 9 ! Course is a little scruffy and the fairways are hard in places but overall ok. Greens are mostly good. I would put this on the difficult side of average but after a few times would probably get the hang of where to put the ball.

The course was set up by Sevi Ballesteros to be a championship course and so it was far too difficult for "Hacker" like me.
The water hazards were very difficult to understand as the reeds were very high and so you could not see the shape of the fairway behind the hazard.
I lost 6 balls, but my playing partner lost more than 10, with 5 going on one hole!
We heard that the course has run out of money, but that is no excuse for the way the bunkers have been left. It was like playing out of a concrete pit.

A very dry course with some huge (and not very well kept) bunkers. Dissapointed in conditions of fairway.
