A very dry course with some huge (and not very well kept) bunkers. Dissapointed in conditions of fairway.

Too tough

We played this course in Feb 25 with a mix of players with handicaps from 10 to 25. One of our group lost 10 balls which removes all the fun. I guess it would suit low handicappers looking for a challenge. Course condition, facilities, welcome and buggies were all excellent - our problem was simply the layout was too tough for our standard of golf.

Tricky Front Nine

Tricky front nine, nice course layout and a challenge to golfers of any standard. Unfortunately due to lack of rain the course fairways were a bit brown and not in great condition which spolit it a little but overall good.

Very unforgiving first nine holes, with plenty of surrounding water to swallow up golf balls. The second nine, although quite hilly give some relief from the wet stuff. Enjoyable to play, greens in good condition and quite fast, fairways a little dried out with lack of rain recently, but no problem with lies. Need to play a couple of times to get to know the course!

Played while staying at Isla Canela, walked the course and is easy although last few holes are more hilly. First few holes have plenty of water so you need a course guide to assess the length of carries etc. The last few holes play better and are more enjoyable so dont walk off after 9 ! Course is a little scruffy and the fairways are hard in places but overall ok. Greens are mostly good. I would put this on the difficult side of average but after a few times would probably get the hang of where to put the ball.

The course was set up by Sevi Ballesteros to be a championship course and so it was far too difficult for "Hacker" like me.
The water hazards were very difficult to understand as the reeds were very high and so you could not see the shape of the fairway behind the hazard.
I lost 6 balls, but my playing partner lost more than 10, with 5 going on one hole!
We heard that the course has run out of money, but that is no excuse for the way the bunkers have been left. It was like playing out of a concrete pit.

Scenic and testing

The clubhouse and the course lend itself to great views across the Guadiana river, the course is very testing although it has not had the investment that the layout deserves in recent years with a little investment and TLC it will prove to be a great course and venue one of my favorites in the region.

A 'Seve'-course

Good course, but underkept, as I think it is in receivership; presently owned by the bank. But, easy to get a tee time, and certainly has some of Seve's challenges.

We played this course in Jan 2015 in extremely windy conditions and it was a very tough test of golf but greens were great. However the rest of the course was a little scruffy. I can confirm it is now in superb condition and a real and we played it on a bargain Winter Saturday rate of 100euros for a 4ball and 2 buggies. The course will smash you up and I guess its always windy as its on the estuary (with a windfarm visible further along) however that added to the drama for us and we played a texas scramble format and loved it. Lovely views, superb condition, hardly anyone else on course, incredible value. Oh and the Club Snadwich was 7 euros and huge so big plus for food too. We will play this every year now on our course list. -All single figure golfers and lost a dozen balls in total I would guess!
