What the club says: From the opening par 4 that curves gracefully towards the early morning sun, to the majestic par 4 eighteenth set in a natural amphitheatre below the Clubhouse terrace, this course has already become famous for having some classic golf holes.
The "Postage Stamp" par 3 fifth of just 113 metres to the smallest of bunker-surrounded greens makes an accurate tee shot essential.
The par 5 ninth ranks among the toughest stroke-index 1 holes ever designed.
The picturesque, short par 3 eleventh - guarded on two sides by water - is one of the most inviting holes you could wish to play and is followed by a par 5 that leads up the "Valley of the Wells" to another elevated green.

Western Algarve - worth a visit

A true test of golf; the prevailing Atlantic wind, tight fairways protected by out of bounds and small greens make this a real challenge.

Home course always a good challenge when windy but very score-able when still. Greens still too slow though.

Interesting course. Not hugely long but requires a deal of thought as there are some tight holes and a lot of undulation.

Very tough course with the wind blowing, lots of undulating fairways and rough is tough to escape from. Greens are lighting fast as well.

Played three rounds here over the last week. This is a very challenging course where accuracy and course management pays greater dividends than length (only used my driver twice each round. I hit a big enough 3 wood and I'm far more accurate with it). Severely sloping fairways mean that on some holes only 10-30% of the fairway width will hold the ball so aiming and allowing for the run off is key. Don't and you're dead! I hit a beautiful and perfectly straight hybrid off the par 4 6th tee to a blind sloping fairway only to never find my ball again! On a flat fairway I'd have had an approach shot from the middle of the fairway. Next round I aimed right and with the run off I ended up 90 yards short of the green on the extreme left. The 16th is somewhat similar being a drivable par 4 but aim right and let the run off find the green.

Other reviews have called this a silly course and after my first round I'd have agreed as I came in fuming and minus a silly number of golf balls (I'm a 12 handicapper). After calming down and thinking my way around, I enjoyed my other rounds and the course has helped develop me as a player as it improved how I apply course management to my game. If you're a beginner though or prefer flat easy walking courses then steer well clear. This place is not for you! But if you like a challenge the you'll love the place!

Also be aware, there is a very strong prevailing wind. Many shots will be into the teeth of it. Select the club you'd normally play at whatever your yardage is ... then add one ... actually make it two for the elevated greens!

It's a lovely course but very very challenging even to an under 10 handicapper ( which I am certainly not' 20) The holes on some of the par 4s really should be par 5s given that the slopes on them take away a good t shot. The 9th hole is one of the toughest par 5s I have ever played. Even the pro"s would struggle!!! Also it doesn't help that you can't go on the fairways with the buggy, even during the summer dry months. Most shots on the fairways will roll away from the buggy pathway which means taking half of the clubs with you to play your next shot. It's a very scenic course but not for the golfer who just wants an enjoyable game.

If you're a serious golfer avoid Parque de Floresta at all costs. Yes, there are half a dozen nice holes, the best being 2,11, 12 and 18 but the truly silly holes far outnumber the good holes. The land is just to steep to house a meaningful golf course and no matter where you land certain shots, the ball just rolls to the bottom of the hill. Fine if you want fresh air and somewhere to slap the ball round as deals are quite keen. 80 Euros for 2 with buggy.
