Chappers visits Wrangaton
This course offers a genuinely superb challenge, the front 9 is a gem of a moorland course. No bunkers to be concerned about, yet Dartmoor always throws up hidden dangers, and Wrangaton is no different. Thick gorse and undulating greens are the order. The 10th is a driving challenge, which I truly love. The 12th is a fine par 3 which is a joy to behold. The back 9 is just so different to the front 9, I would say there are very few course's in the country that have the game of two halves feel to it.The facilities are first class, very welcoming members, good food and incredibly an incredibly helpful professional. This golf club is 1st class, and really worth a visit.

A challange in the heart of South Devon
A game of two halves is a cliche usually used by football pundits. However in Wrangatons case its exactly that. The course is unique with a split of 9 moorland holes and 9 parkland holes. Founded in 1895 ,it is part of a club where a member belonging to any club founded in 1895 can play for free. The front nine in my view is far from easy, undulating fairways granite rocks, plenty of gorse and bracken coupled with grazing cattle ,sheep , and ponys add to the challenge . Considering all the grazing livestock the greens are protected by electric fences and are in excellent condition and well maintained. In sharp contrast the back nine is livestock free and is a pleasant parkland experience with a couple of challenging par 3 holes. Overall it is a course that both low and high handicapppers can enjoy and is well worth a visit.

Excellent greens
The green fee is a bargain at £10. The course is split over two halves, the first being a moorland course, the back nine is parkland. There are up and downhill holes. The fairways on the moorland are undulating with gorse to the sides; you won't get a flat lie. Watch out for a few ditches near the greens which are not always seen from the fairway. The parkland is a bit shorter with trees on the sides of the holes. The greens were excellent, firm, fast and true. As it's still March the tees were being rested and you had to play off mats, but the tees looked good.Reviewer Rating
