Awful attitude to visitors. Avoid.

If I could, I’d give this place 0 stars.

I’m down in Whistable on holiday with my family and I was excited to play some traditional links golf.

Tried to call the club to enquire about tee and club hire availability and got no answer. Walked down to ask in person and I’m sorry to say, the poor experience went from bad to worse.

The club doesn’t have a pro shop, so I entered the bar and, with the pretty usual beady eyes of the members giving me the full examination, I asked the lady behind the bar if there was availability in the afternoon.

I was told that “I can’t help you with that today.” Wow.

I said that the club website said that it was welcoming to visitors and was again told that “I can’t help you with that today.” No other reason was given.

The club has just turned away 4 paying customers. Is it doing so well that it can turn away £100 on a Monday? What they also don’t know is that one of us hoping to play is the nephew of a past lady captain of the club. This shouldn’t matter at all, but in the sadly archaic golf world it probably does.

Absolutely awful service and I’m afraid it is a sign of an outdated approach to the game.

Please avoid and go to one of the friendlier clubs in the area.

Impeccable greens

I've played here many times and in fact (full disclosure) recently joined. It's a lovely nine-holer, right by the sea, which is very flat and looks, therefore, innocuous. It's not. The wind is *always* a factor, and the fairways are narrow. Burns crisscross the course so that a wayward shot could easily get wet on one, two, three, five and seven. There's plenty of juicy rough to punish the hook or slice as well. Keep it in the fairway though and you can score well, as the greens are mostly very flat. They are also in outstanding condition. I played yesterday and it was like putting on marble. It's a lovely course for a quick nine, but enough of a challenge to feel like proper golf.

Apart from my 2 blobs today, I played solidly. Loving my new irons which I think are gonna know me down a couple of shots. The course was in great condition and played in some nice company. Today's match was the 1st of 3 rounds in the Whitstable turkey trot ????

Very polite and useful service. The club managed to fit eight of us in for our birthday even though they had a competition on all day. Had a wonderful day.

Flat, bit in very good condition considering the wintry weather

Short but fun links

Nine hole links course, very flat (it's laid out over former salt marsh land) but charming, and a decent test when the wind blows (which it usually does). The holes go back and forth rather than out and back so it can be tricky to judge the wind. Very pretty at the far end of the course as it winds round some colourful beach huts, just a couple of metres from the shore. You can't see the sea but you know it's there. Greens are usually excellent

Easy walking flat course that is in beautiful condition, compliments to the greenkeeping staff. Don't be fooled by the short length, each hole has well placed bunkers defending the greens and approach shots require accuracy. I played whilst on holiday and I look forward to returning next year to play the course again.
