Mountain marvel!

Like a number of courses in the valleys and mountains of South Wales, this is sure not your average slick manicured Parkland course! Named after the two villages either side of the mountain, you know you are in the "wilds" after passing a huge cemetery which started life as a Cholera Burial ground! A slightly bumpy approach to a "working clubhouse" and when on my visit, an honesty box was in operation. The initial impressions of the clubhouse were that a lick of paint and general tidy up would be in order, but this is on the top of a mountain in Wales and golf is the game, so as long as there is a decent drink at the end, and the inside is presentable, who worries! The first tee is right outside the clubhouse and you are immediately introduced to the "blind drive", the first being straight up a slight hill, no view of the green, or in fact anything other than sky! The course does in fact consist of an original 9 holes, these mainly being on the back nine, with many of the early holes being opened more recently. What you will very soon after your start to find are side slopes, ditches, some tiny tiny greens, exacting tee shots and blind shots galore. Every single hole is different in all respects, - the greens vary from sloping to tiny, and I mean tiny, this is a course that leaves you thinking from start to finish.
I am a true lover of "natural" golf, this is exactly that, no graces here, just natural out and out fun against pure nature. i played on a windless and calm day - if rain is about or the wind is up, forget the golf, find a pub and have a brains SA!
