Although it's only a Par 68 it's very long , lots of long Par4s , quite open , so the wind plays its part

Stinchcombe Hill golf course is a wonderful place to have a round of golf. It mainly consists of par 4 holes (5x par 3, 1x par5) but very few of these par4s are reachable in one shot and you will have a variety of approach shots. Perhaps the only thing which lets this course down is too few par 5 holes (which I happen to enjoy easiest birdie opportunity).

Even thought the course is on a hill, it is actually quite easy to walk, as it is fairly flat at the top (compared other “local” courses like Shortwood lodge, Woodlands and of course Painswick). However the greens are firm, raised and heavily guarded by bunkers which are well raked and filled with top quality course sand (they were actually a pleasure to play out of). The course had brilliant 150yard marker stakes on both sides of the fairway which make choosing your second shot to the green much easier than of you have to guess your yardage. The course also had frequent ball cleaners which is always nice to see. The rough had been recently cut back which made the course very open and forgiving, I would imagine this course would be much more challenging in the summer months if that rough is allowed to grow.

Although I said that this course is fairly flat (considering it location), this course is on top of an amazing hill which enables the golfer (and walkers) to see down the throat of the Severn estuary. It is possible to see Thornbury, Oldbury, both Severn Bridges, Gloucester and beautiful Wales.

I look forward to playing this course again this winter but will probably play it less when summer green fee are re introduced in March or April as I am a budget golfer.

Course in excellent condition especially the greens. At this time of year (July) the rough is not to be messed with, however it only punishes bad shots as second cut is generous on most holes. A good test of golf on this hilltop course where the wind is nearly always a factor.

Three temp greens, but one of these was actually 'an old green' and the two others were just off the actual greens. £15.00 today (feb 15th) so well worth the money. No water, but some challenging sand guarding a lot of the greens.

Challenging course, some very tough par 4's to start that can be very penal, fairways in good condition and greens although slow were good and you can hole a few putts. All the holes are varied and although not the longest course, its an excellent challenge and an enjoyable round of golf. A birdie on the stroke index 2 always helps! In addition to the good course the views are out of this world.

Very exposed on the top of Stinchcombe common, this is a very open course that drains well and is in good condition. When the wind blows it blows really strong up here.
