Could be great

Played here many times and really enjoy the practice facilities, friendly staff and course layout. Off the tee there is lots space to feel comfortable and relax over the shot. The greens have lots of break in them and I can understand why they are kept so long, however they do need speeding up a little in my opinion as this makes them look untidy, almost like a winter green even in summer. I would love this course to receive a bit more TLC as I live within a mile and would definitely join, however for the moment I'll continue to drive pass to play the majority of my golf somewhere else, such a shame!

TLC Needed

The course has a good variation of holes and is a good test ,BUT the course was in a poor condition ,The greens were terrible and it was boggy in places with some bunkers being full with water.Ive played here a few times and this is the worst I've seen it,luckily it was only £10 ,I won't be rushing back!!!!!!!!

Tees - poor, fairways - good, greens - average, bunkers - poor. Overall not bad played here before and this is worst it's been, couple signature holes are very nice but an average course, needs work. Value for money was good can't complain at £12 round of golf only gripe is far too busy and some real hackers on there and unprepared pitch marks

This course is best avoided if it has rained in the previous week, drainage is extremely poor (if not none existant), this makes tending the ground almost impossible which then exasibates the problem, in very poor condition.

A pretty course to play during late Spring through to early Autumn. During the Winter months the fairways become very muddy which therefore adds another hazard to the round of golf.

Had previously been warned that play can be overly slow at the weekend but 3 hours for 9 holes was ridiculous. Was due to play 18 but Went home half way round as we could'nt face anymore. We play here in the winter when it's not too busy and have had no problems but when the sun's out we won't be returning.

Local to Sheffield we have the option of many pay as you play courses. I have visited Rother Valley a few times over the past 24 months and usually it's a good course with some nice views over the local scenery. At < £20 you're usually happy with what you get.

Unfortunately the course is struggling tremendously with the quality of the grass. According to the proshop they are suffering with fungus/disease attacking the greens and it has caused considerable damage. The greens are like the surface of the moon at the moment and it makes it all but unplayable. The ball bobbles and shoots off in different directions, and the majority of the greens seem to be suffering because of it.

Disease aside, the course has some well planned holes, a few nice long par 5s where you can hit the big sticks, and a nice Par 3 playing an island-style hole with water surrounding.

What I really like about Rother Valley is at the 9th Tee you can call the clubhouse and order a bar snack/drinks to be ready when you come off the 9th Green. Nice touch.

When/if they can sort out the greens it is worth a visit, but unfortunately at the moment you'll struggle to see value for money. I heard a rumour they're currently charging winter green fees.

Last round: (95. H/C 21. May '13.)
