I have been a member at cray for about 12 years and i must say that it is in a very bad state at the moment . the rough is far to long and only a few yards from the fairways and of cause you have got the motor bikes that ride across the greens . I just hope that my time who run the course read these bad reports and do something about it .they charge too much for what is a poor course.

This course should not be open All Greens are diseased and generally the course is poor . The additional par 3 at the 14th replacing another hole is an obvious afterthought. This is a very low standard course

Played here earlier this month. As it was twilight deal I only paid £13 to play the Cray Valley course. I thought this was going to be a steal but sadly was not so pleased. The Fairways were in generally great condition with plenty of lush grass (they could be excellent if cut a little shorter). Unfortunately what let the course down was the greens. At the rack rate of £28 I would have been really annoyed with the quality of the greens. While I know it is early in the season and the weather has not been great this spring there is no excuse for the wide ranging annual meadow grass that is taking over sum of the greens. If I can stop this in my lawn a team of full time greenkeepers with plenty of treatments can stop this in the greens. In addition while many of the tees were in good nick there were some shockers (including one where the yellow tee had been set on such a slope you would think you were hitting from a wayward drive onto the adjoining slopes.

Come on Orpington pull your finger out and get the greens up to what should be a basic standard!

Ignoring the state of the course due to the weather the greens were largely unplayable thanks to a combination of motorcycle tracks and horse hoof imprints. At £22/ round when the course was dead it's too expensive, they need to review and go back to the £15/ round previously and also do a little more to ensure the course is secure and playable.

Tee off was at 0909H. Started playing at 0930H. 20 minute wait on the tee!
Lots of golfers on the course who had their kids with them.
Dress code - anything goes, I saw people wearing jeans

Course in truly awful condition (i.e. golf cart 'donuts' on the greens) no fairway or rough cuts. You are pretty much playing in a field with flags in. Avoid even at this cheap price.

Played the Cray Valley course on 17 March 2012 for the first time in a few months, having previously found it a reasonable place to get some golf in.

I know we're just coming out of the winter months but tee boxes were in a terrible state - a lot of bare mud patches, hardly any grass, a lot of sand and you couldn't get a level stance on many of them. The fairways ranged from bald to lumpy and the 18th was simply mud; no grass to play from and not easy on a par 5 to be trying to hit a 3 wood off mud. The greens were lumpy, covered in sand and must have added a minimum of 6 shots to our rounds thanks to untrue bobbling putts.

The clubhouse on the Cray course is based in 1976 with shoddy facilities that just seem to be getting worse, and I'm no golfing snob by any means but allowing people to play in jeans and trainers just doesn't do the club any favours.

For the green fee of £28 you'd expect some course maintenance but this place just seems to be taking your money and going downhill fast. Shan't be back in a hurry.

Tee off blocks: average
Fairways: average
Greens: Poor (sand on every one)

Green fees should definately be reduced during winter as the greens cost me at least 5 shots due them being so sandy and gritty.

I was also warned by a member never to leave clubs unattended as pikey's on quad bikes steel them if left alone!

Have played this course in summer before where the £28 green fee is justified.

Plenty of other courses worth playing which are better and cheaper.

These two courses are value for money but not great. The Club facilities are badly in need of improvement - more like a transport cafe than a Golf course - but you get what you pay for.

A bit repetitive

Cray Valley's par 4's are quite monotonous and repetitive.
The par 3's are more interesting, the placement of par 3's so close together makes for alot of waiting around on the tees.
