What the club says: Merrist Golf Course is deemed one of Surrey's longest golf courses measuring just under 7,000 yards. When played from the back tees the golf course offers a stern challenge for the most accomplished of golfers. The forward tees also provide an excellent test for the lesser player. Water is a key hazard from both the tee and when approaching the greens. The 17th over water and the par 5 18th a fine finish to an excellent round.

Poor and not great value
Course has a nice layout but to charge 30+ in winter is madness.Course was waterlogged and greens in poor condition. Course has potential and has nice layout with some beautifully shaped holes but is very overpriced for what it is in winter

Can be a slow course
Members don?t let faster groups play through

Course waterlogged
Lovely course with great holes however not sure the course should have been open the fairways were all fenced off and completely waterloggedGreens were very good however why don’t people repair their pitch marks

Slow Slow Slow and not in great shape

Has potential but wait until the spring
First time at Merrist Wood on Sunday; only place we could get an early morning tee time at fairly short notice and at a reasonable price (£30). Expectations were pretty low due to other reviews, the recent sale (the previous week I believe) from Crown Golf (who I expect haven't invested much if anything for months leading up to the sale), and some seriously wet weather. However, although the fairways were saturated we had an enjoyable experience. Really the course should have been closed, the fairways were that wet but the greens were surprisingly good. The layout was better than expected too with a balanced mix of trees, water, ditches, changes in elevation and doglegs but the most interesting bit is the dramatically sloping greens. The grass range was closed as the new owners are apparently focusing on improving that first but large practice putting green and chipping area were open. Clubhouse was open though we didn't use it so can't comment. Pace of play was good, especially for a Sunday morning and in such wet conditions. The place has definite potential but their primary concern has to be drainage for the fairways. I'm keen to revisit next year in better weather and see what it's like then. Hopefully the green fees will remain reasonable.

Stern test of golf
First time playing this course. It is a long, tough course with a good layout. The course (tees, fairways, greens and bunkers) were in excellent condition. You have to be on your game to score on this course. Beware of the ditches on a few holes! Will definitely play again as I enjoyed the challenged.

Great layout but in need to of water!
Merrist Wood is a really interesting golf course to play but it is tough. Long with lots of water and tricky undulations, it will test you game but the fairways are quite generous and you will certainly have an interesting round. I played in July 2020 when most courses around were looking very dry. Merrist Wood was worse than most - even the greens were starting to yellow. All it needs is a bit of water all over the course and it would be in good shape. They are in danger of the course drying out beyond repair.(Round played: Jul 2020 - Score: 74 Handicap: 3.8)

Good Challenge
Good challenging course. The greens require a bit of attention but all things considered it is still a nice course.

Enjoyable and challenging course
I like this course a lot, but have not yet managed to play my best here!Lost and out of bounds balls are the main culprit, but this reflects on me, not the course.
