What the club says: Created in the early 20th century by James Braid, five times Open champion andView up the valley foremost Architect of his day, the 18 hole course at Ogden is as natural as the finest seaside links you could name. Every tee, fairway and green is as one with the undulating landscape of this exceptional moorland location. Wildlife is in abundance - Deer, Foxes, Badgers and many species of birds choose here as their home.
The layout has remained true to its original design with the only major alterations being made by Dr Alistair McKenzie in 1912. Dr McKenzie went on to design some of the greatest courses in the world including the Augusta National, home of the US Masters in partnership with the legendary Bobby Jones. Ogden's design credentials are therefore second to none.

A beautiful course, views to savour!
Expect to take lots of photos and expect some holes to ruin your life. This is all part of the enjoyment of playing this unique and lovely course. The greens were slow which was to my liking but might suit some, but take nothing away from this course as the layout provides 18 completely different challenges. I would suggest playing it in the better weather as wind is always around but I imagine the course wouldn't be the same without it. Lovely clubhouse and a lovely bacon sandwich beforehand started the day off well. This course is up and down so expect to be breathless often and in awe of the views as you head towards the back nine.Reviewer Rating

Hidden Gem
Played here several times - a good golf challenge, lots of variety and stunning views. It's not the prettiest, not in the best condition etc, but for ?25 midweek it's fantastic value. Greens overall were fine, just prepare yourself for a long hilly walk!Reviewer Rating

Excellent course bargain price
I’ve played this course a few times as I live near by and it’s noticeably harder then many of the courses near by but very enjoyable. Definitely need to plan your shots as you pay for it if you go for glory. As everyone says the 17th is a cracking hole off the top. And stay out of the rough as we got through quite a few balls. Great course if you like to challenge yourself. Scored 103 and 23 ish handicap. Like I say it’s hardReviewer Rating

A Grown Up Thinkers Course
Want a course where you just tee up and smash it down a fairway and then decide what's needed on shot two ? dont come to Halifax GC then, this is a course where each hole needs studying from a layout point of view, wind, elevation and position of the green. Not only that, which fairway gives you the best chance of hitting a green in regulation. Even the driving range is difficult as you are hitting across a valley of "ball gone" rough. We played it on a mildly windy warm day and found some shots required two or three clubs more. First few holes are challenging but for mid-handicappers are nearly all shot holes, so think them through and you've got a good chance of a decent score. Then you get to the 17th ... wow .. first time you play it, you will probably have no idea what club to use ... which is why you have to go back again. Great course, very friendly pro and members and we will definitely go back again, hoping for a windless calm day.Reviewer Rating

The essence of Golf
First time playing this stunning James Braid / McKensie course and I hope to return many times in future. The course is a challenge for golfers of all abilities as the course has been expertly sculptured from the natural landscape. If you love golf that is closer to the game's origins combined with excellent greens and a welcoming clubhouse, then Halifax GC must go on your bucket list.Traversing the course requires some strength and stamina - a vertical climb of 81 storeys in the round! Many of the Members were carrying their bags - they must be made of sterner stuff in this neck of God's County!
19th hole - the club house setting looking down the valley towards Huddersfield is wonderful, especially sat on the terrace with a pint of Wainwrights Golden Ale.
A minor grumble - for the first-time visitor, orientation guides are a little lacking. Standing on the 6th tee, we were faced with three alternate plausibe target flags and the layout map couldn't resolve the dilemma. Fortunately, a Member kindly set out bearings straight. On the final fairway, there's a marker post adjacent to the first tee - this might be a line off the tee, but from a blind fairway it's the wrong line completely!

Always a challenge.
Played Halifax several times, usually some wind and the severity determines your score! Even when bad weather hits the course is playable and the greens are good.Reviewer Rating
