What an absolute privilege to play this outstanding inland links course. Great value at £60 for the day (2 rounds), great hospitality, everyone made us welcome - Millionaires golf, with firm fairways, treacherous bunkers and firm, quick greens - not half bad for the 3rd week of Feb. A must play

Not a course for the faint hearted. Keeping the ball 'In Play' is a must so high handicappers beware. It's playing a lot easier since vast areas of Gorse were removed for the Walker Cup in 2003. A warm welcome awaits you and it's well worth the Green-Fee.

Top, top quality

What a great course. Deservedly rated a top 100 course. Fairways and greens are pristine. Stay out of the fairway bunkers and you can score well. Most golfers will not have experienced anything like them. Deep and difficult, the only option in most is to pop it out and take the medicine. Beautiful and brutal in equal measure.

Great history, but ?110 ?

When you arrive at Ganton GC its almost like you can feel the history oozing from the clubhouse and the neatly cared for course as you drive between the holes on the approach. We were greeted by the Club Secretary, who was a lovely guy, and we proceeded to pay our ?110 each for a round on a course which seemed completely empty. Having prepared for the no shorts unless you have long socks on rule (need reviewing for summer) we came suitably dressed unlike some of the other chaps arriving who had to change. The course itself is immaculate, the tees and greens absolutely lovely. The bunkers are very very deep and need avoiding. We were very surprised that the course didn't seem to have many "signature" type holes for the money we were paying. I personally was really disappointed on the 18th tee when a groundsman who was blowing away leaves right next to the tee box did not stop as we went to tee off, on a course such as this that is just unacceptable. He seemed disinterested in the golfers ... etiquette is something you expect lots of on a course with such history. Anyway, overall our experience was good, but for ?110 we expected it to be amazing and contend with some of the other expensive courses we have played like the Brabazon (much better) and Hollinwell (best ever). We would only ever return if we paid much less, just like the golfers we met at various East Coast courses in the days afterwards who could not believe we paid ?110 each.

Worth a visit

Worth a visit with some tight fairways and tricky greens. It's a bit like a Links course, some of the greens were not upto standard for the price. Only downside for me was the last holes are played over the road which I didn't like.
Definitely course knowledge is a must.

This was a very very hard course. Rained all day and wind was strong. I lost it half way down the back nine and developed a shank, but felt I shot a 60 on a course so hard.

Friendly welcome from staff. Nice clubhouse and practice facilities. Unfortunately found the course to be somewhat overrated. Surprised to see this better ranked than courses like Notts, West Sussex, Woking, etc. Price removed from the review it’s an overall nice course however too many negatives for us for the value. Fairways patchy, nothing on tee box to say which hole you’re on (or on the scorecard), no hole layout boards to know which way to go or hazards, bunkers are best feature and dramatic yet no consistency with sand plus greens very slow but good condition m. Very much a hit the fairway or you’re out the game golf course. Thin line of semi rough then unplayable gorse throughout. No real amazing signature holes although most are good in their own right. Sorry... not sure what the fuss is all about with this one, just didn’t get it. Hopefully others find it more enjoyable

Save your Money & go elsewhere

We played this course a couple of weeks ago.The reason for my delay in posting this review is because I have been waiting for a reply from the secretary & manager. I sent in an email providing feedback about our visit. In my opinion we should have been told about the infestation of Craneflies so that we could have either played somewhere else or defer our visit. Our day was spoiled and I felt that they needed to know.At the very least I expected an acknowledgement but nothing, not a thing!
Ganton is certainly not worth the green fees being charged.
