Good course and faciilties. We played with a society and we got A star treatment from the start. The pro shop man was helpful and gave us some advice on L/D and C/P. Food was great couldnt fault it.

My home course, parkland, very well maintained and designed by same designer as Augusta so undulating greens with tricky pin positions everywhere. Signature par 3 third is a great hole as well as the monster 11th at 450yards par 4. Overall a great golf course which any level player would enjoy.

Good condition but uninteresting

Course was in good condition with fast and true greens. There are a couple of crossover holes that are always annoying, but the course has the feel of up one fairway and down a parallel fairway and the approach to too many of the greens is nondescript giving an overall uninteresting course layout. Would not play again.

Too many cross over holes

As an overall experience I would rate Darlington and medium to poor as golf courses go. Let's start with the good points first. Its easy to get a game there, and has pretty good practice facilities and an old style but friendly clubhouse.

Now to the actual golf. The biggest negative is that there are too many holes where fairways cross over each other, and even holes where the tee boxes put you in danger because you are extremely visible and hittable to others teeing off on another hole. Likewise there is at least one shared green which isn't big enough to give safety to those on using the other hole on the same green. So bringing these factors together I could imaging it being very much a 'stop start' round giving way to others all the times. As we all know, different player attitudes exist on course and it could easily wind some people up when not respectful to others.

As a visitor the other strange thing was the number of 1 balls going round, which completely disrupts the pace of play of a 3 or 4 ball, having to wave each 1 ball through so not to hold up. It also suggest that it may not have the most social or friendly members, if they don't team up with others for company during a round.

Bunkers, yes some ok where as others were nearly bare with minimal sand and very compacted. If you decide on playing a round here, think of it as only just above the typical municipal/council run course and as such hard to give any more than 5/10.

Zero sand

Played here a couple of weeks ago, the day I played the bunkers had no sand in whatsoever. Just hard, compact and unplayable.
Greens were nice, fairways well defined. Staff and other members pleasant too. I’d play again if there was some sand, any sand,in the bunkers
