Don’t do it
Worst course I’ve played this year. I’ve played here before and can’t really understand what’s happened. No grass on tees, plenty of weeds / rabbit holes, no fairways, grass all one length no definition at all. So after enduring this for 4.5 hrs, went in to bar in the hope of an enjoyable drink to be bet my Mr Grumpy behind the bar. I know everybody has bad days but he definitely needs to take some happy pills, in fairness he was the same before we went out. The only plus point to the day was the Pie & Chips. If you have the option to play it, give it a miss.Reviewer Rating

Very disappointed with length of fairway grass. There was no clear definition between fairway and rough and the greens, although mostly true, were extremely slow. The tee boxes also needed a cut. Considering the previous week's excellent weather, there really was no excuse for what appeared to be a lack of maintenance. Date played: 18/05/14

Lovely course in good condition. Extremely slow play in four ball ahead but it did not affect play greatly.

There are two courses, and I played them both. The Button is the shorter course, but an interesting layout with some good holes. The condition of the course is good and it is not a busy course. The Mackintosh is the longer, tougher course, it has some good holes, but there are a lot of blind shots (off the tee and second shots). Also the condition was not as good as the Button particularly the tees which looked heavily used. The final problem is the Mackintosh is a much busier course and consequently the pace of play was poor. The green fee is cheaper for the Button and this is better value as well as being cheaper. There are good facilities in the clubhouse and plenty of space.

Having been a member of Cottrell Park for 2 years I have recently left for another club. whilst the facilities are great and the staff very efficient, the course is overplayed and innundated with societies to the detriment of the members. I found myself struggling to get tee times and out on the course could take in excess of 4 hours on a regular basis.
