Good course with lots of difficulty and Character

Last played here 15yrs ago, course to be honest was in much better condition then but given recent weather conditions the course still played well and we enjoyed the day. - August 2018

great condition -well watered greens and fairways

Really enjoyed it - greens and fairways in top nick.

Some people moan that this course is not in as good a condition as its heyday in the 80'90's - (there are lots of photos of Sam Torrance and Seve from the Masters events there!) .... well so what ......I wasn't playing golf then but i'm playing now......and this is a good course. Some really outstanding holes like the par 5 4th, par 3 5th , par 5 9th, par 4 10th and 11th and of course the finale 18th is probability the toughest 18th I have played. A standout hole.

I just love playing and looking at the amazing houses that line the course....oh how the over half live!

Don;t listen to the old fashioned/backward looking moaners...go play this course .it is not even 5 mins off Jn15 of the M1 in Northampton.

PS With Open fairways memebership i got it for £36 for 2 players!

beautiful views from the 19th hole :-) and reasonably priced food.....can't go wrong

I hadn't played this course since 2009, and the reviews I read recently were quite scathing, so I was somewhat dubious, but playing from the whites (for the first time for me) I found the course quite forgiving, probably because there was some run on the ball, so the long par 4's were almost in range for me. The bunkers were not good - my opponent had to ring the pro shop and get a ruling on one on just the 2nd hole. I found no sand in the 2 which I went in and consequently thinned both shots through the green. The fairways were in good order, as were the (white) tees, and the greens were a consistent pace, although we had some huge bounces when landing the ball from height. Most of those shots ended up through the back of the greens. There was a bit of 'hay' around as with all the clubs I've played recently - because of the rain then sun in April/May, and no course has kept on top of the growth very well. I'm told there will be houses being built at some stage, which will entail losing a couple of holes to access roads, and will therefore involve building a couple of replacement holes. The Pro also said the Pro shop would be moving back over the road, which is where the 19th hole and the car park are. The natives were friendly, as were the bar staff, and the real surprise was how quiet the course was considering we started at 10.30 on a Saturday morning in a 2 ball, and only caught up the match in front on the 17th, when one of them lost a ball. A number of members I sat with at the end of our match are already planning where to move to once the disruption to the course starts, and in fact the guy I played has already joined another club.

Avoid.

As others have said, this course is on borrowed time. Such a shame as it is a great track.

Bunkers are unplayable and the rough has not been cut for weeks. Greens were ok but pretty slow.

Poor conditions

Quite disappointed with course condition. Driving range closed, bunkers all GUR, and greens in shockingly bad conditions. At £32.50 for a round I would expect a lot more. Pro shop were accommodating and provided a discounted lunch, but golf ruined really.
Having said that a great layout and very difficult. Narrow fairways with big rough and lost balls not far from fairway edges, 10 holes with water hazards. If you're game is not in good condition don't play here as you will lose a bag or two of balls. Worth try though to test yourself if playing OK.

Good potential

Course had only recently re-opened after having been closed to flooding. Grass in semi-rough was too long & made finding your ball tough. The tee areas also had long grass so higher tees needed. Lunch was poor but dinner was a much better standard.

Avoid in the winter

It's a great course, but they shouldn't be open at this time of the year, it was basically a mud bath.
