I was given a courtesy round as I am considering joining and was put to play with a group of 11 seniors who were extremely welcoming and very pleasant to play with.

Unfortunately the course was on temp tees and some of the greens had been worked on over the winter, but will clearly be very good in the summer.

The course was fairly open and enjoyable, if you go off line you are likely to end up in trees, but with mown grass underneath, a sensible punishment which keeps the game moving. There are plenty of challenging approaches with some tricky pin positions as the greens have plenty of slopes to them which keeps it interesting and makes you think about where to play the shot in.

The club house is old, but very well appointed and has a nice feel to it. having a spike bar is always a plus, but the main bar and restaurant also seemed appealing. I didn't try the food, but there were plenty of people chosing items from the menu.

The practice facilities (although I didn't use them) were plentiful, an 8 bay driving range, a short game area and large putting green should get you properly warmed up for the round.

Would I play here again? Yes, but the green fee is a bit steep at a standard weekday £55, but Bristol and Clifton is certainly at the higher end of members clubs.

Noisy course on main road. Generally flat with unremarkable features. Little to mark fairway from rough and terrible bunker conditions. Slightly more interesting 13-16 stretch. Poor greens. Bland clubhouse with overpriced canteen style food. Feels cheap - like it would rather be a pay and play than a membership club.

I played this course at the end of April 2013 and the weather was sunny and it had been dry for around 3 to 4 days.
To be honest I went with high expectations as I had seen reviews claiming it was the S Wests best course-wow what a let down that statement is.
The first issue was the 4 to 5 members we encountered, booth snooty and ignorant. It is clearly a members course who like the tradition of visitors being their guests and not just a turn up and play. We asked a member of the pro staff if the members were a friendly bunch and his short answer was 'No!'.
The course is relatively flat with the exception of 4-5 holes which do have some character, the flat holes I thought were boring and unchallenging with greens that played open and uneventful. The greens had not been cut and they played slower than any I played this winter, they were however very green and somewhat true. Fairways had limited cut in so it was hard to distinguish fairway from light rough and didn't add to the ambience. The tee offs were fine and mostly flat.
Having played golf for over 25 years and to a 5 handicap I really was left disappointed, even more so as i paid £38 for the round when in my view £20 would just about be acceptable.
The clubhouse facilities were none existent and very dated.
I won't be returning and overall was really disappointed by the whole day.
