Expensive for what you get
I have played here about 10 times, and yes its a bit rugged, but its usually around ?18 a round. We paid ?27, and phoned the club to ask if a guest could join us. The club quoted ?27, but when we arrived charged oir guest ?37. I was unhappy, as its not worth ?27, let alone ?37. Round took over 5hrs as it was so busy. Wont rush back.Reviewer Rating

Nice greens, no bunkers
Disappointed they have increased the prices. It shouldn't cost more than ?25 for a course with no bunkers in play. It is a nice layout, really good greens and fairways are ok for this time of year. Kevin in the pro shop is great, very welcoming.Reviewer Rating

Delightful
Lovely course to play.Well manicured and very well maintained.
Good open fairways and greens like snooker tables for the most part.
Bunkers were the only negative due lack of playable sand.
The holes keep you interested all the way around with some very challenging and some not so punitive.
The 8th water surrounded par 3 green is obviously the jewel in the crown.
The layout can be a bit strange in places. The clubhouse drive cutting across a number of holes is a nuisance and finding your way to a couple of tee boxes was far from clear due to a lack of effective signage.
Clubhouse was nice and modern. Staff were pleasant although didn’t seem overly happy in their work.
Overall a very enjoyable round but unfortunately due to some of the travel between holes I suggest one you would be best served doing in a buggy.

wet round at Blakes
I had a fantastic round at Blakes, a good inland links-style course with beautiful rolling hills and superb greens. well laid out, I played off 12 and shot an 82, with only one lost ball. Island Green. We had the deal of 2 x players and a buggy for ?60 well worth it, the staff in the bar and pro shop are lovely really friendly as were some of the members, will definitely book again.

Excellent Greens
Found the course to be in a surprisingly good condition despite all the recent wet weather. Greens were fast, bunkers well raked and weeded and green aprons good. Will definitely be back to play in the summer when it will hopefully be sunnier and less windy.Reviewer Rating

Great winter course but….
Cold wintry conditions yet the course was packed. Well over 4 hours for a 2 ball & asking to play through met with staid comments about the 4 ball in front. Sigh. Good tees, fair & good running fairways& rapid high summer style greens with hugely challenging pin positions.Reviewer Rating

Regular Tuesday Visit
Six of us descended onto Blakes. An hour before we were due to play the heavens opened and soaked most of Essex. This turned the course into a very lush state and the only thing it affected were the bunkers which we used a GUR.The Greens were fantastic, not easy to read but generally very playable and fast even though we had all that rain.
This was our ninth visit and we will definitely be back, The only issue is there is no breakfast facility on a Tuesday so we go elsewhere, I am sure it would pay for itself if there was someone there to make it.
Its a hidden Gem so sssh.

a sunny August day
First impressions of the clubhouse when booking in was that the club was minimising service to keep the club open, Ot on the course the green were in good nick although the fairways and bunkers acceptable.Interesting layout of the holes with plenty of challenge. Only on the last two holes was a clearance over a lake required.

Nice challenge
Blakes was a new one for me. It seems longer than the card says, with a spectacular island hole 8th. Fairly open. A few long walks from green to next tee, tge signposting on course could be better. Held up a bit going round as well. The free airshow from nearby North Weald was good too.Reviewer Rating
