What The Club Says
The Blakes Championship course, designed by renowned course architect Howard Swan, is best described as an inland links. The layout and undulations of the course are totally unique to the area with rolling fairways and sleepered bunkers giving the feel of a traditional seaside links.

Blakes golf course
Blakes is not in great condition at the moment because of a lack of water while I was in the clubhouse I spoke with the head green keeper who told me what the problem was they had a bore hole put in that went wrong so no water for the course that was being fixed while I was there so I'm a few weeks things will get a lot better ????Reviewer Rating

Good option after heavy rain
Blakes is a very open course which allows long but inaccurate drives a lot of leeway! We visited on 29th January mainly because many other courses were closed due to the recent heavy rainfall. Blakes is on high ground and drains very well. Teeing off mostly from mats, as you would expect at this time of year, but no temporary greens. The greens were in excellent condition and very fast.Blakes has had real problems with its bunkers and these weren't really playable for the most part. It looks like attempts are being made to improve them for the coming season. At ?29 for a round it is a little more costly than many of the comparable courses in the area, but it's always a "go to" when other courses are closed. Take an extra layer of clothing as the course is very exposed and can be a bit bleak in mid-winter!

A hidden gem in essex
A great inland links course. Well laid out and challenging to most golfers. A lot of work seems has been undertaken this year. Greens and fairways are good . They've spent money on a borehole and just refurbished the clubhouse. Always playable in winter as its drsind well. Good value and definitely worth a visit.Reviewer Rating
