6 of The Best Golf Courses to Play in Dubai

By: Liam Moore | Wed 31 May 2023

Dubai has seen an otherworldly level of development across the last 30 years. So much so, that Dubai has become one of the leading areas when it comes to the sport of golf! Perhaps the biggest advantage of golfing in Dubai is how much there is to do away from the golf course. Known for its sparkling oasis, crystal-clear skies and phenomenal skyline, there is nothing quite like a trip to Dubai.

It is a bucket-list destination for golfers of all abilities, although the sheer quality of course offering does suit better players, with layouts featuring complex designs that attract professional golfers annually. Dubai is renowned for desert courses and unbelievably luxurious hotels, with the year-round climate boosting all the positives listed above.

Away from the course and Dubai can offer evening entertainment unlike no other. The city is obviously highly popular with non-golfers who are visiting, and there are plenty of activities to keep your party occupied when away from the course. Tourist attractions include The Palms Islands, Ski Dubai, Dubai Mall and Wild Wadi Waterpark.

An interesting benefit of travelling to Dubai is that it’s a hub for air travel, which means regular flights are available at a relatively lower rate. Of course, we couldn’t possibly forget the assortment of five* hotels. The biggest appeal of all is the quality of golf courses on offer, with many of them previously hosting professional competition. A trip to Dubai is one that is dipped in luxury and quality - what could you possibly be waiting for?

So, you’ve settled on a golfing trip to Dubai and you’re on the hunt for award-winning courses. Fortunately for you, Dubai is stacked with a collection of the finest courses on earth! We’ll start with Dubai Creek Golf Club, which is ironically named due to the sheer amount of water on the premises. The luxurious nature of the course setup will leave visitors in awe, with the carpet-like fairways blossoming in the basking sunshine.

Golfshake Review:

“One of my favourite courses in the world. Such a fantastic, challenging layout. Always a pleasure to play.”

Emirates Golf Club

Emirates Golf Club

Emirates Golf Club is one of the most esteemed golfing hubs residing in Dubai, and in 1996 they doubled their offering by designing a second layout that was later revamped by Nick Faldo. Course management is needed if you are to outthink the mastermind behind the design, with cleverly positioned lakes and daunting bunkering dominating what would be an incredibly challenging round of golf. Maljis is the other routing at Emirates Golf Club; its pristine presentation will leave even the most ardent golfer in amazement. It was also the first grass course to feature all 18 holes in Dubai, which enriches its already remarkable history as host of the Dubai Desert Classic.

Golfshake Review:

“Super friendly club, all welcome. Great range and warm up facilities. Course is in great shape, greens are firm but not ridiculously fast - very much enjoyed my two rounds.”

The Els Club

The Els Club

The Els Club is situated in the bustling Dubai Sports City, which is an entirely different experience in itself. The golf club has outstanding practice facilities, with video analysis feedback on offer at the high-class performance institute. The course is a desert-links style layout, with it being sculpted from sand! An absolute must-play if in Dubai - just like the other two - and you can enjoy Els’ mischievousness design under the gloriously blue sky. Perfection.

Golfshake Review:

“The course was in excellent condition and the scenery was beautiful. Everything about the course was stunning, from the quality of the course to the clubhouse. However, what struck me most was the warm and professional welcome I received from staff.”

Jumeirah Golf Estates

The Earth Course

Jumeirah Golf Estates is a renowned location which has attracted the DP World Tour to stage some of the greatest tournaments on tour at this iconic venue. There are four courses on site but we all know you’re here for the Earth Course, a truly fantastic championship golf course that holds the potential of ruining rounds at every possible occasion, which is part of the fun, of course! The Earth Course provides an opportunity for amateurs to walk in the same footsteps as their professional heroes, and we seriously cannot recommend this pure golfing experience enough.

Golfshake Review:

“Everything about the place was amazing up to recognising parts of it from watching the pros play it on telly. It was in amazing condition and a real golfing experience.”

The Montgomerie

The Montgomerie Dubai

For anyone seeking a test of extraordinary length, then The Montgomerie’s 7,396-yard marking should do the trick. Splattered across 265 acres of terrain lies the incredible 18 holes that make up the Montgomerie. A standout is the 13th hole, with its green contoured to the shape of the UAE, which sprinkles further magic on this highly impressive venue. As an additional bonus, there are 20 guest rooms reserved for accommodation.

Golfshake Review:

“The Monty tends to get overlooked when visitors are looking for a Dubai golfing experience - which is a shame as it is one of the nicest courses in the city. There are some good deals to be had online and if you are a mid-handicapper looking for a challenge then try the Sapphire tees.”

Trump International Golf Club

Trump Dubai

Trump International Golf Club epitomises the luxury commonly found in Dubai. The club also features one of the largest clubhouses in Dubai, measuring over 30,000 square feet. Gil Hanse - a prominent American designer - is responsible for the majestic makeup and he instilled plenty of imagination into the final design. The round opens up in generous fashion, with a large double fairway just asking to be hit. If you struggle from the start, prepare for a VERY long afternoon!

Golfshake Review:

“A really good overall experience - nice, fast greens - with a lot of humps and bumps. Back nine is much easier than the front.”

The locations listed above are not an exhaustive list of golfing facilities in Dubai, which speaks volumes on the land’s attitude towards the sport of golf. Dubai is undoubtedly one of the most desirable places to play golf on the entire planet, and the sheer number of resources available would support that argument. If you’re considering a holiday to Dubai, Golfbreaks provides plenty of information on a potential trip to paradise.
