Have you ever considered a golf holiday to Tenerife?

We're certain that many of you reading this article are keen travellers who have taken their clubs to various destinations across the continent and beyond, but have you ever considered a golf holiday to Tenerife?

The largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife is located in the Atlantic Ocean, just off the northwestern coast of Africa, and is perhaps most distinctive for its remarkable volcanic landscape that is dominated by the peak of Teide, an active stratovolcano, which is the third-tallest volcano on the planet.

Unsurprisingly, given this unique environment, Teide National Park was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007, attracting millions of visitors each year.

Given that it has been shaped by major eruptions throughout its long history, this island is geologically extraordinary and will offer visitors many an otherworldly view and setting to consume.

Culturally rich and full of intriguing architecture, there is much to see and enjoy here, while the warm, sub-tropical climate is reliably pleasant, making it an appealing place to experience throughout each season of the calendar.

But what about the golf? Well, you ask, and we have the answer. You might be surprised to discover that there are nine courses on the island, including Abama Golf (created by the great Dave Thomas), the stunning Golf Costa Adeje, the visually striking Golf del Sur, the coastal design of Amarilla Golf, the classic Real Club de Golf de Tenerife, and the Seve Ballesteros-designed Buenavista Golf, which is known for its breathtaking vistas.

There is one notable place we haven't mentioned - but we'll come to that shortly.

It's important to note that Tenerife is highly accessible. Direct flights from airports such as London Gatwick, London Luton, Bristol, Manchester, and Liverpool are common, with the journey itself taking anywhere between four and five hours.

But if you are considering making your way here, we can recommended one venue in particular, which rests just 15 minutes away from Tenerife South Airport.

Tenerife Madrigueras Golf Hotel

1881 Tenerife Madrigueras Golf Hotel is one of the most impressive boutique hotels on the island, but what helps it to stand above the rest (for us) is the fact that it resides alongside the sublime Golf Las Americas.

Let's discover why this is the ideal base for your Tenerife golf experience.

1881 Tenerife Madrigueras Golf Hotel

Tenerife Madrigueras Golf Hotel

Featuring just 57 spacious rooms, this is a five-star hotel exclusively for adults that is situated in the resort town of Playa de las Americas, which is a hub of bars, nightclubs, restaurants, attractions, and beaches (which showcase imported sand from Africa) on the southwestern corner of Tenerife, with the hotel placing you right in the heart of a thrilling and engaging centre of activity.

Boasting personalised service and a tranquil surrounding environment, this spot offers the optimum in relaxation, with the intimate nature of the hotel just adding to that welcome sense of ambiance.

Many of the rooms can claim to provide private balconies that gaze out across the golf course, the beautiful gardens, or swimming pool, with air-conditioning and striking marble bathrooms also being part of the package.

When it comes to further enhancing the calming character of the hotel, you can also indulge in the renowned Wellness Centre & Spa, where you can take advantage of the available facilities that include an indoor swimming pool, a sauna and steam room, jacuzzi, massage and beauty treatments, or even the fitness room.

The sense of quality here is continued through its dining options. Bogey Restaurant serves breakfast and dinner with Mediterranean and international dishes to pick from, while the Golf Clubhouse Restaurant is the perfect lunch venue overlooking the course. But for that touch of class in the evening, Bar Piano is a sophisticated joint with your time spent there often accompanied (naturally) by live piano music.

Simply put, it doesn't get much better than 1881 Tenerife Madrigueras, but what takes it to another level is the fact that the golf course is sat right there waiting for you.

Golf Las Americas

Just yards from the hotel, you will come across Golf Las Americas, which is widely ranked among the finest courses in the Canary Islands.

Born from the grand imagination of John Jacobs, the course was opened for play in the late 1990s and it quickly became highly regarded for its strategic use of water hazards and ravines that offer an exciting challenge to golfers of all standards.

Golf Las Americas

This is a layout that rewards accuracy and smart planning over your shots. It's a place to think around, not overpower, with carefully placed bunkers and lakes being a frequent obstacle to avoid. That said, the fairways are certainly generous in places, which means that even higher-handicappers should be able to complete their 18-holes with enjoyment at the heart of the experience.

Finding that balance of offering a test while remaining playable was central to the philosophy that Jacobs followed when putting together this design - and it's hard to argue against the results of that approach.

Golf Las Americas

The fifth is a standout hole, the signature of the course, with this scenic par three requiring you to play over the water to a guarded green. It's a thrilling shot to play - and it's one that will demand both sound club selection and a fine strike if you are to succeed on what is undeniably one of the best short holes you will encounter on these islands.

With preferential tee times being available for hotel guests, your journey from accommodation to first tee will be one accompanied by consistent serenity.

But as we noted earlier, while you can happily pass your holiday away at Golf Las Americas, should you desire to expand your horizons a little further, there are other appealing courses that could be added to your itinenary, including the nearby Golf Costa Adeje and Abama Golf that will contribute to delivering an even more complete Tenerife golf experience.

Tenerife Madrigueras Golf Hotel

Ultimately, this is a destination to be savoured and treasured, and it's one that should immediately be placed at the forefront of your thinking.

When it comes to a dream platform from which to place yourself, it's difficult to imagine anywhere else truly surpassing 1881 Tenerife Madrigueras Golf Hotel.
