Oura Praia Hotel - The Heart of the Algarve

By: Golfshake Editor | Wed 24 Jun 2020

The Algarve is a magisterial destination for golfers, renowned for its vast collection of courses, the quality of its accommodation, and the deliciously friendly climate that embraces travellers from far and wide. There is something for everyone in this beautiful part of the world, but if you truly want to enter the heart of this jewel in the European golf landscape, then Oura Praia Hotel is a sure way to reach it.

Location

Situated in the popular coastal city of Albufeira - known as The Gateway to the Algarve - the Oura Praia Hotel is a 30 minute drive from Faro Airport, making it highly accessible to visitors. This bustling town was once merely a fishing village, but it has evolved into a tourist hotspot, with sandy beaches and a busy nightlife strip keeping holidaymakers occupied.

Given the location, shopping and tasting the local cuisine of the city is highly recommended, while the beach offers an array of water sports and boat tours, including dolphin watching!

What You Can Expect

Within Oura Praia Hotel, there are 126 rooms, with self-catering apartments on-site, featuring a fully equipped kitchen, air conditioning and balcony, golfers have the option to either make their own dishes or experience the restaurants at the venue. If you fancy an evening cocktail, there are seven additional bars spread across the Oura Hotels in Albufeira, each with given access for guests.

In terms of facilities, there is an outdoor swimming pool, a gym ,sauna and tennis courts, ideal for those looking to relax or keep active. Also, as a resident of the hotel, guests may take advantage of the Oura View Beach Club, where there are two pools, another sauna, gym, and Jacuzzi.

The Golf Courses

Ultimately, for those of you reading this feature, the golf courses here are the main draw, and there many classics within close proximity to Albufeira. These include the acclaimed Salgados, which is known for its many water features, requiring accuracy and concentration to score well, providing a fun challenge for golfers of all standards.

Slightly further afield, the Amendoeira Faldo Course is right up there with the best in Portugal, a strategic, desert-feeling layout that blends several characteristics together to provide a modern twist on a traditional setup, as the designer himself, Sir Nick Faldo explains: "The real skill is that when you stand on the tee, the golf hole tells you what to do, and if you do what it tells you there is reward but if you don’t you’re penalized."

The prestigious Faldo is complemented by the O'Connor Course, a younger creation, but one that quickly built stature, running through a valley of streams and water hazards, making for a scenic, testing, and entertaining round of golf.

Your Next Golf Break

When you consider all of the above, it's easy to see why Albufeira is such a hub for visitors and golfers to the Algarve. If you want to play great courses in comfort while sampling the local culture, then Oura Praia Hotel is a terrific option to consider for your next golf break.
