Review - Bettinardi Kuchar Model 1

By: Golf Shake | Tue 16 Jun 2015

Bettinardi have re-entered the UK market in the past couple of years bouyed by the release of a range of new putters. Working along side Bob Bettinardi,  Matt Kuchar, a 6-time PGA Tour Champion has helped to design a very special range or putters.

James Reeson, Golfshake writer and +2 handicapper from Cambridgeshire recently reviewed the Bettinardi Kuchar Model 1:

Technical Specifications

  • Weight : 350G
  • Loft : 3 Degrees
  • Lie : 71 Degrees
  • Length : 35 inches
  • Material : mild Carbon Steel
  • Finish : Pewter PVD
  • Grip : Gray Pure Grip (Standard or Midsize)
  • Headcover : Kuchar Signature White/Blue
  • Dexterity : Right Handed/Left Handed "

Looks

To me the putter looks fantastic. Esthetically the wide body blade design coupled with the Sunset Blue finish give the putter a modern yet traditional look and with the heel and toe of the putter being milled with the same beautiful design that we have seen on Bettinardi putters of old you can see where Bob and Matt's thoughts have come together.

These design features combined with the solid white line to aid alignment fill you with confidence when addressing the ball. Even the base of the putter is a joy to behold with the blue and white theme coupled with Matt Kuchars signature. It oozes class!

Feel

This range of Bettinardi putters have been engineered with the tour proven FIT Face technology and the feel from the face is incredible. The feel from the putter face is the perfect combination between firm and soft and this coupled with the balance of the putter will only have a positive effect on your putting.

Performance

For overall performance the Bettinardi is hard to beat. This is because the the wide body blade design combines with the stability you find with a face balanced mallet putter and the enhanced feel you get from a traditional blade putter.

There are milled lines running horizontally along the face which provide you with the best roll possible and will only increase the amount of putts you make from all ranges, I have used the putter for 6 or so rounds and it certainly worked for me!

Performance of the putter is also increased but how good it looks when over the ball, it fills you with confidence even before you have made your stroke.

Pros

The putter has many good points but I was most impressed with the looks and feel. I couldn't believe how confident the putter made me feel over the ball and that combined with the feel from the face really does make a difference. I certainly holed more putts from inside ten foot and I'm sure a big contributing factor was how confident the putter made me feel over the ball.

Golfshake's Owen Davies was also impressed with the new Bettinardi Kuchar Model 1

Cons

I didn't feel that there were any real draw backs with the putter. I would probably have a midsize grip rather than the standard size one as I felt it was a little slim, however this just personal rather than a criticism.

The Bottom Line

I can't recommend this putter highly enough. It is well worth while, for anyone, if they get the chance, to hit a few putts with one because I really can't stress enough how good it feels and how much better the ball rolls with the milled lines along the face. It is a fantastic product and I will certainly be purchasing one sooner rather than later.

James' Rating - 10/10
