Why Ladies are Loving Golf in Staffordshire

By: Golf Shake | Thu 19 Mar 2015

The 3 Hammers Golf Complex has already proved a popular venue for women looking to take up golf and is now launching a new campaign to make it easier than ever for ladies to start playing the sport.  More than 50 per cent of the newcomers at the Wolverhampton facility are ladies – and to meet the growing demand 3 Hammers has now started the Ladies Love Golf Academy.

The Ladies Love Golf Academy will provide tailor-made coaching as part of the national Get into golf initiative under senior instructor John Cheetham.

Says John: “The unique structure of Ladies Love Golf focuses on the key informal, flexible and social elements while keeping the membership fee affordable at only £49 per year.

“From weekly coaching sessions to golf away days, overseas breaks and social events, Ladies Love Golf is a community of lady golfers of all abilities.

“The improvements we see in the ladies are fantastic and with exposure to Ladies Love Golf their confidence grows. Along with the social element, these factors are key to ensuring these ladies stay in the sport and go on to join local clubs.”

Says Gareth Shaw, development officer for the Staffordshire County Golf Partnership: “This is a great time for ladies to be getting involved in golf.

“The recent news that the Royal and Ancient golf club, based at St Andrews, has agreed to open its doors to women shows how the sport is changing and becoming more open.

“Golf is a sport that offers so many benefits to people all ages and abilities both in terms of exercise and a positive social life.

“As well as introducing new players to golf, the Ladies Love Golf scheme is providing a pathway into potential club membership, which brings with it the chance to play golf socially or competitively as well as enjoying the social side of the sport.

The 3 Hammers Golf Complex, based in Old Stafford Road, Coven, has been championing golf for women with weekly Ladies Mornings over the past two years, focusing on offering value for money and flexibility while acknowledging that two of the factors that deter women from playing are cost and  the perceived male dominance in the sport.

John Cheetham adds:  “Growing ladies golf is passion of mine and a focus of the Complex. As a Pay & Play facility, it’s a relaxed place, there’s no dress code, no membership and therefore it breaks down the usual barriers.

“Our fantastic team of PGA Professionals and staff on site at the 3 Hammers are friendly, approachable and hugely passionate about coaching and I believe this atmosphere is key to the ladies enjoying the sessions and seeing real improvements week after week.

“Our female golfers know they can join in with other like-minded lady golfers, learn a new sport, keep fit and enjoy the social element of the game.

“Golf to the newcomer can be a daunting prospect and those initial steps are often the hardest. But at 3 Hammers the social element is brilliant. We provide a relaxed, informal, social environment and we provide tuition tips to help them improve.

“Ladies golf here continues to go from strength to strength. We listen to what the ladies want and need from their game and aren’t nervous about trying something new.”

A variety of ladies sessions are on offer every week developed to suit busy lives including mornings, evenings and weekend sessions. For £7.50, the Ladies Love Golf members get a fantastic deal including coffee, quiz, expert golf tuition, range balls and on course tuition.
