Kim Claims Evian Championship Title with Final Hole Birdie

By: Golf Shake | Mon 15 Sep 2014

19 year old Korean Hyo-Joo Kim secured the 5th and final Major of the year in the Evian Championship with a nerve tingling putt on the 18th to record a birdie and put the pressure on Australia's Karrie Webb who needed a par to force a play-off.

Kim becomes the 3rd youngest major champion on the LPGA Tour and had already made history on the first day shooting a 61 and recording the lowest in men's or women's majors.

Leading by 1 shot following day 3 Kim held her nerve despite a fight back from Webb but secured the title following a 15 foot putt for birdie on the 18th green.

“I feel very happy, like a bird,” Kim said through a translator. “I want to fly in the sky.”

Webb recorded 6 birdies through to 15 and many would have bet against the 7 time major champion but a poor chip from off the green on 18 meant a 12 foot putt was required for par and to force the play-off hole.

"I swung it really well today, and I hit every green from the second hole until the end. I don't know what hit me - probably a rush of adrenaline - and it was a poor putt knowing I had to make it," said Webb.

Jodi Ewart Shadoff was the best placed Brit who tied for 20th after carding a 66 which included six birdies on the first 11 holes. Charley Hull finished with night nightmare round of 77 which included 3 bogeys on the first 4 holes, a triple on the 12th and finished with a doubley bogey on the 18th.
