Hybrid Technology Brings Some of that Old Black Magic to the Short Game

As players of all skill levels continue to look for greater control, consistency and forgiveness in the short game a Colorado-based club specialist Black Magic Golf this week announced its range of pioneering hybrid wedges is now available in the UK.

“A recovery of sorts is rumoured to be happening to the UK golf course sector but it’s patchy and confined for now to the higher-end destination courses,” says Planet Golf’s John Lewis. “New golfers and the gone-aways who are looking to spend more time at golf clubs are going to be chasing equipment that gives them every chance of enjoyment by hitting the ball where they want it to go.

“Black Magic Wedges deliver precisely that type of performance. In their native US, club pros have these wedges flying out the door as players of all types are trying them, loving them and putting one or two or even more of them in the bag.”
Many players will revert to a 7 iron or a chipper for all their shots around the green due to the lack of confidence with a more lofted club. In a round of golf the higher lofted club might often be a better choice. These wedges deliver great confidence to golfers by allowing them to adjust the face angle naturally for different types of shots, without the fear of hitting a shank or those chunking shots that plague many players.

One of the most frequently encountered problems is entering the turf or sand too far behind the ball. The best golf wedge candidate that will help players with this problem would be one that does not require that perfect ‘pinching’ action. This is where the Black Magic Wedges have what is known as a zero degree bounce angle at impact. The sharp leading edge will dig into the turf and sand but only so far, as the club moves forward it rides on a continuous bounce angle allowing players to still get under the ball with great control even if they mishit a little behind the ball.

There five loft options from the approach wedge to the sand wedge:

• 37° Hybrid Wedge
• 48° Pitching Wedge
• 52° Gap Wedge
• 56° Sand Wedge
• 60° Lob Wedge
• Retail Price is £109 each inc Headcover
