Faldo Series Continues South American Efforts in Chile

By: Golf Shake | Fri 28 Mar 2014

faldoThe Faldo Series Chile Championship will return to Club de Golf Sport Francés in Santiago on April 12-13 for the event’s third edition. The country’s top young golfers will benefit from tournament experience on the course at Sport Francés and expert advice off it from two international expert golf coaches.

“More than 60 competitors have taken part each year in our Chile Championship since its inception in 2012,” said Sir Nick Faldo. “Golf’s return to the 2016 Olympics in Rio will be an inspiration to the next generation of South Americans, including Chile, so it is important that we continue to create opportunities for young golfers across the continent. We thank the Chilean Golf Federation for continuing to support our effort.”

“We are looking forward to welcoming players from Chile and around the world to Santiago for the third Faldo Series Chile Championship. The tournament helps develop young golfers by providing them with a combination of tournament experience and expert golf-specific advice” said Edgardo Bello Lutter, General Manager and former national coach of the Chilean Golf Federation who will deliver seminars throughout the week with Kevin Flynn, P.G.A. European Advanced Professional.

Golfers aged 12 to 21 will line up in the third Chile Championship, to be played over two rounds at Club de Golf Sport Francés. The field will be divided into five age-groups – three for boys and two for girls – with the leading overall boy and girl qualifying for the Faldo Series South America Championship on May 16-18.

Supported by The R&A, ISPS Handa, The European Tour and The Greenbrier the 2014 Faldo Series Europe schedule features 17 tournaments in 15 countries including three in England plus others in Abu Dhabi, Ireland, Chile, Wales, Brazil, Scotland, Czech Republic, Italy, Austria, Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Slovakia and the USA.

Established in 1996, 40 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 30 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year.  Past winners include Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.

In September 2014, Faldo will begin taking students at a full-time residential academy for education and golf development in America.  The first ever Faldo Series Academy in Casa Grande, Arizona marks another significant step in the programme’s history.

Golfers born in 1993 or later wishing to enter the Faldo Series Chile Championship at Club de Golf Sport Francés on April 12-13 should email [email protected] or visit www.chilegolf.cl before entries close on April 9.
