Champ Zarma FlyTeePro - Golfshake member test

By: Golf Shake | Mon 10 Feb 2014

Champs latest tee offering, Zarma FlyTeePro sees the addition of range of helpful features. We sent Golfshakers David Chinn and Matt Wabe out on the course to put them through their paces.

What Champ say - Technical Specs

The Champ Zarma FlyTeePro are a "well-engineered high performance golf tee with a soft shock absorbing color tip on a Champ Zarma Teeslow friction 6 prong head. With exceptional distance and accuracy golfers of any caliber will see improvement in their game.

Designed with a virtually indestructible polymer this is the last golf tee you will ever need." The tees are available in two colours; 2 3/4” (69mm) and 3 1/4” (83mm). The former being green, and the latter being blue.

Looks

David: All looked good, felt good & supported the ball well.

Matt: The tees look good, well, as good as tees can look!

Feel

David: You did not notice the tee when striking the ball & they were easy to find after my stroke.

Matt: The tees do feel well made. The slightly rubberised top is a bit strange at first, as it feels it could "pull off" the top of the tee, but they are fairly solid to touch.

Performance

David: I tried all 3 &, because of driver head size, preferred the green top & banded tees. In softer ground the extra length might be useful but not generally. I found the banded tees easy to insert to achieve a constant ball height.

The tees were robust enough to use again indeed I broke 3 in 2 rounds. They tend to break horizontally but leave a blunt but reduced length tee suitable for use with an iron or fairway wood & seemed not to distort therefore the ball would sit on the shortened tee.

Matt: How do you judge a tee's performance? They slide into the ground easily and they perform well at holding a ball on them before being struck.

Champ have a line on their site "#1 total distance, independently robotically tested!" which may be the case, but I noticed no distance improvement whatsoever.

Champ also state "virtually indestructible polymer this is the last golf tee you will ever need" which, in my rounds with them, isn't wholly true. I managed to snap a few tees with relative ease, all in the exact same place no matter which club I used; which was where the rubberised top joined to the plastic tee.

Pros

David: Good looks & performance

Matt Wabe Nice looking. Holds ball nicely in place

Cons

David: None

Matt: Didn't live up to the marketing lines on Champ's website. No markings on tee to aid in teeing up at consistent heights

The Bottom Line

David: All in all a quality product & thanks for the chance to “discover” them: I would use again. I cannot comment on price as no details were given.

David's rating - 9/10

Matt: The tees, although looking nice, I don't think lived up to the marketing that is sold on them. Being "virtually indestructible" isn't true as I managed to snap quite a few of the tees. Suitable for all types of golfer, and, compared to wooden tees, probably last a little bit longer, however, not as long as marketing would have you believe.

Matt's rating - 6/10
