It's been just a few weeks since Rory McIlroy rocked the golf world with his emphatic victory at the Masters, and now the next major of the season is upon us - the PGA Championship. Returning to Quail Hollow, it has the makings to be a great weekend of golf. As with most majors, there’s sure to be a lot of action and a lot to keep your eyes on across the weekend, so here are some of the top storylines for this year's PGA Championship.

Can Rory Carry on His Hot Streak?

Quail Hollow is a course that just works for certain players. If a player has succeeded here before, there is a great chance they will do so again. Rory has a great record Quail Hollow, having won there four times already, and having a handful of top 10 finishes as well. If Rory can win the first two majors of the season, there is no telling where it ends, could he win all four majors in one season?

Will Scottie Scheffler Re-Assert His Dominance?

Scottie Scheffler is still on the hunt for his third major title following his two Masters victories, but will this be the weekend his already decorated trophy cabinet gains another member? This season began with a rather slow start for the world no.1 following an irritating hand injury. However, a recent victory at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson has Scheffler back on his game. Can the world no.1 extend his major title count?

Could JT Win Here Once More?

Similar to Rory, Justin Thomas is a player who just seems to play well here. Having already picked up two career wins at Quail Hollow, JT will definitely be looking to contend come Sunday afternoon. JT started this year just inside the top 20 in the world rankings, but following a victory at the RBC Heritage and three runner up finishes already this season, he has propelled himself into the top five once again. It’s great to see JT playing well again, could he win his third PGA Championship?

Will Jordan Spieth Complete The Career Grand Slam?

Probably the biggest storyline of the weekend revolves around Jordan Spieth and the potential for him to be cemented into golf history alongside Rory McIlroy. Spieth hasn’t won a major since 2017, when he won the Open Championship. Now struggling with his game, currently ranked 48th in the world, the odds will be against the former world no.1. However, it would be truly incredible to see Spieth beat the odds and join the select group of history.

Another American Champ?

The defending champion, Xander Schauffele, has faced some struggles early on this season and it is looking unlikely that he will be able to defend his title. However, an 8th place finish in the Masters shows Schauffele could still be ready to turn up the heat for the big occasions.

The title could remain in the hands of an American in the likes of Bryson DeChambeau, however. The LIV long hitter showed his ability in the Masters, and he will likely be contending this weekend.

So, there are some of the top storylines heading into the second major of the season. As you can see it is set to be a busy weekend of golf and definitely not one to miss!
