Faldo Series Targets More Growth in Austria

By: Golf Shake | Mon 03 Jun 2013

faldoThe second Faldo Series Austria Championship will return to Waidhofen Golf Resort in Waidhofen an der Thaya on July 5-7, organisers have announced.  Five winners will join Sir Nick Faldo at the season-ending Grand Final.

“More than 50 golfers took part in our first ever Austria Championship in 2012,” said Sir Nick Faldo. “I was really impressed with the way the winners went on to perform at last year’s Grand Final.  I hope their success, along with the support of AT Golf, will help inspire others and continue to grow the event.”

“We are very excited to host the second Faldo Series Austria Championship at Waidhofen.  This is the most important tournament of our season and we work hard to ensure that the course is in excellent condition," said Bohdan Sezemsky, Chairman of AT Golf.  “We also look forward to the Series returning to Waidhofen’s sister resort in the Czech Republic, Telc, on June 21-23.”

With World Amateur Golf Ranking points on offer, more than 60 top young golfers from Austria and neighbouring countries will compete over 54 holes in Waidhofen an der Thaya.
The field of boys and girls aged 12 to 21 will be divided into five age groups – three for boys and two for girls – with the winners of each division joining the six-time Major Champion at the 17th Faldo Series Grand Final.

Supported by The R&A, ISPS Handa and the European Tour, the 2013 Faldo Series Europe schedule features a record 20 tournaments in 14 countries including six in England plus others in Ireland, Abu Dhabi, Chile, the Czech Republic, Scotland, Austria, Wales, Brazil, Italy, The Netherlands, Germany, Slovakia and Greece.

Established in 1996, 40 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 30 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year.  Past winners include Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.

In September 2014, Faldo will begin taking students at a full-time residential academy for education and golf development in America.  The first ever Faldo Series Academy in Casa Grande, Arizona is also home to the Faldo Series USA and marks the next significant step in the programme’s history.

Golfers born in 1992 or later wishing to enter the Faldo Series Austria Championship at Waidhofen Golf Resort on July 5-7, 2013 should email [email protected] or visit www.golfresort-waidhofen.at.
