Belfry wins England Golf grant to help grow the game

By: | Sat 24 Nov 2012

The Belfry, near Sutton Coldfield, is one of the world’s most renowned golf resorts and has recieved  an exclusive grant from England Golf, the governing body for amateur golf in England; designed to grow the game amongst adults looking to get started in golf. A free-to-attend group taster session will take place next week on Wednesday 28th November from 7pm – 8pm, conducted by The Belfry’s PGA Qualified Golf Professionals.

“We’re honoured that England Golf has trusted us to lead this new initiative at The Belfry. Sport can be difficult to get involved with at an older age, but this program will breakdown some barriers and enable new golfers to enjoy a free light-hearted taster session with some of the country’s best coaches,” noted Alex Davies, Golf Academy Supervisor, The Belfry. “These sessions will be fun, yet informative enough for people to go away and practice, safe in the knowledge that they’ve been given the right tools to do so.”

Davies, who has been at The Belfry since 2006, will lead the taster sessions with several other members of the extensive coaching team at The Belfry. The coaching team will conduct a clinic and a series of demonstrations in the hour-long session, before beginners will be given the opportunity to learn the basics, such as grip and stance, from some of the UK’s leading coaches at one of the finest coaching facilities in the country, entirely free of charge. Consequently, a full 8-week programme will begin starting the first week of January, with each session costing just £5 per person.

The PGA National Academy is a centre of excellence for golf, offering unrivalled teaching facilities. Resources include five individual custom-fitting suites that house nine of golf’s leading manufacturers, such as TaylorMade, Ping, Titleist and Callaway.  Furthermore, there is a 34-bay floodlit driving range, putting green and short-game area with both video analysis and launch monitor technology available. It boasts over 20 fully-qualified PGA Qualified Golf Professionals for a totally unique golf experience and caters to players of all abilities.

The Belfry, which is managed by De Vere, is ideally located just minutes from the M6, M40 and M42, Birmingham International Airport and Birmingham International Train Station. Its location has been one of the key factors in successfully attracting visitors from both near and far over the years.
