Ian Wright Golf Classic returns to Monte da Quinta

By: | Tue 04 Sep 2012

Arsenal goal-scoring hero Ian Wright will be looking to defend his title and raise thousands of pounds for charity when the Ian Wright Golf Classic returns to the luxurious Monte da Quinta resort later this year.

The ex-England striker beat off the challenge of a field including former England team-mates Les Ferdinand, David Seaman and Teddy Sheringham to emerge victorious in last year’s inaugural event.

The classic raised more than £40,000 for the Willow Foundation, the only charity in the UK to provide positive and life-enhancing special days for seriously ill 16 to 40 year olds, giving a much needed break from the difficult realities of their condition.

And Wright is once again inviting golfers to join him at Monte da Quinta for the four-day event from September 20-23.

The 54-hole Stableford team competition will see players compete on the prestigious Quinta do Lago South Course as well as enjoying some of the Algarve’s finest hospitality with a gala dinner and prize-giving at Monte da Quinta.

A host of celebrity friends will be joining Wright on the trip with West Indian cricket legend Brian Lara; model Jodie Kidd; former BBC radio presenter DJ Spoony; ex-Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke; and Willow Foundation founder and Arsenal goalkeeping legend Bob Wilson all set to take part.

Wright said: “Last year’s event was a huge success. We played some great golf courses, enjoyed first-class hospitality and company and raised a lot of money for a fantastic cause".

Hopefully this year’s will be even bigger and better. I can’t wait to get back out there and I’m definitely planning to retain my title.”

Packages for teams of four players, or three plus a celebrity, are available from £6,740 and include three nights’ accommodation, all competition golf and social events and return flights from London Gatwick.

Attendees will also be able to sample a host of surrounding leisure options in their free time including horse riding, clay pigeon shooting, tennis, water sports and Monte de Quinta’s Magnolia Spa, as well as playing Quinta do Lago’s other golf courses, the celebrated Laranjal and North lay-outs.

Located in the heart of the prestigious Quinta do Lago estate, Monte da Quinta boasts a collection of 132 self-catering suites and a range of two and three-bedroom townhouses and spacious villas. All townhouses and villas come with private pools.

The resort is an ideal base for a lifestyle vacation, located close to the Algarve’s famous golden beaches and surrounded by leisure options including championship golf, tennis and water sports. On-site there are a number of dining options, an extensive Kids’ Club and the Magnolia Spa.
