Gecko Pro Tour at La Cala

Last week saw the Gecko Pro Tour 2011 at the La Cala Resort. This was the third event of this fledgling tour which attracted some 60 players.

The Tournament commenced with a Pro Am on the 26th July with around 16 Pro golfers and 35 Amateurs taking part.

The scorching July sunshine didn’t stop young Pro Golfer Ignacio Papp shooting a blistering 68 - 68 (8 under) over the two days and deservedly winning this leg of the tour. Philipp Genev held his nerve and stayed firm to take 2nd position. It was nail biting all the way for third place with Simon Boyd slipping down to 6th after finishing 3rd on Day 1, leaving it open for Daniel Westermark and Antonio Arjon Bueno to tie for third position. Next best scorers were Adam Sagar and Ruben Holgado

The winning team was led by Nilesh Patel, There was also some great displays by junior golfers Vikas Patel, Ayush Patel and Sara Garcia. Alexander Garder (amateur) won the longest drive, pinging his ball some 290 meters.

During the prize giving ceremony Gecko Pro Tour organizer Paul Netherton commented “Thanks to all the team at La Cala, who made us feel very welcome. The Asia course was in superb condition and all the players were delighted.”

La Cala Resort looks forward to welcoming back the Tour on the 16th and 17th August for the 5th event in the tours calendar which takes in courses along the Costa del Sol and around Andalucia.
