2011 GB&I Walker Cup Team Dressed by Glenmuir
The cream of Britain and Ireland's amateur golf talent will wear Glenmuir when the Walker Cup is played on the Balgownie Links of Royal Aberdeen Golf Club on September 10-11.
Glenmuir, one of Europe's leading golf apparel brands, is delighted to be supplying the GB&I players and officials with a total of more than 460 co-ordinating Dublin and Howth shirts and Finlay and Lauder knitwear for the 43rd staging of the historic head-to-head against the USA.
Captained by Wales' Nigel Edwards, GB&I are attempting to end three successive defeats in the match, which is conducted every two years and is held alternately in the US or Great Britain and Ireland.
Royal Aberdeen GC is the sixth oldest golf club in the world and with Glenmuir celebrating its own 120th anniversary in 2011, marketing director Brian Mair is hoping it might also be vintage year for the GB&I Walker Cup side.
Said Brian: "We are delighted to be supporting the Walker Cup team, but especially so this year as the match is in Scotland for the first time since 1999.
“The talent in the team is extraordinary and we're very proud to be involved and tasked with making the players and officials look as smart and as well-prepared as possible.
"Glenmuir has a long association with the Ryder Cup in the professional game and we are happy to be providing similar support to the cream of our amateur players."
The last time the Walker Cup was contested, at Merion Golf Club, Pennsylvania, in 2009, the USA defeated Great Britain and Ireland 16½ to 9½. Notable USA performances came from Rickie Fowler with four points from a possible four, who went on to star in the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor last November.
A total of 26 matches will be played during the two-day competition. Two different forms of match play are used in the competition; singles and foursomes (alternate shot). Four foursomes and eight singles matches are played on the first day of the competition. On the second and final day of the competition there are again four foursome matches but there are two additional single matches, so that all team members play in the final session of the competition.
For Spring/Summer 2011 Glenmuir offers a fully-coordinating collection of clothes and accessories with three new and modern colour schemes: Hot Summer where bright pink combines with navy, white and stone; Tequila Sunrise, withstunning mango and peapod accent colours against white, khaki and black; and Cool Waves, where vibrant kingfisher blue sits alongside yellow, black, white and mercury.
