Jayden Schaper's fairy-tale start to the new season continued as he produced a hole-out eagle at the second play-off hole to beat Ryan Gerard and claim his second DP World Tour title in as many weeks at the Mauritius Open.

Who is Jayden Schaper?

Jayden Schaper

Jayden Schaper was born in Benoni, South Africa on March 14, 2001.

He had a successful amateur career and was the top ranked junior golfer in South Africa by age 15. In 2017, at the age of 16, he won both the South African Boys U17 Stroke Play Championship and the South African Boys U19 Championship, to become the first player to win the "grand slam" of junior titles in South Africa, having previously won the U13 and U15 championships.

In 2019, he won the All Africa Team Championship in Mauritius, and the Junior Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.

He was a member of the South African national team and represented his country at the 2017 Junior World Cup and played on the International Team in the 2017 and 2019 Junior Presidents Cup.

In January 2020, Schaper tied for sixth at the South African Open in Johannesburg, the best amateur finish in the tournament since Ernie Els in 1989.

He turned professional early 2020, at age 18 and joined the Sunshine Tour, where he finished runner-up at the Alfred Dunhill Championship in December and won rookie of the year in 2020-21.

In 2021, he also joined the Challenge Tour and in 2023 the DP World Tour, where he tied for 16th at the Barbasol Championship, a PGA Tour co-sanctioned event.

In the 2024 season, Schaper finished top-10 in all four DP World Tour and Sunshine Tour co-sanctioned events. He shared the lead heading into the final round of the South African Open and eventually finished tied fifth after a final round 74.

His victory at the Alfred Dunhill Championship was his first on the DP World Tour in his 95th start and he has now added to it in his very next start and leads the Race to Dubai and has climbed to 63rd in the world rankings - he was 127th before winning the Alfred Dunhill.

He also has two runner-up finishes, one third and 17 other top-10s and has made 63 cuts. He averages 307.63 yards from the tee, hits 71.43% of fairways and finds 80.56% of greens in regulation.

He averages 28.50 putts per round, gets up and down from the sand 50% of the time and has a stroke average of 68.
