British Speedgolf Championship is One of Golf's Most Unique Events

The British Speedgolf Championship is one of the more unique events in the game and it will be staged at Sunningdale Heath Golf Club this September, with a maximum field of 70 competitors expected to participate in a challenge to combine speed with precision.

Supported by The R&A, the championship showcases a faster, more athletic form of golf, where a player’s Speedgolf score = strokes + time.

This year, British Speedgolf introduces another first: a Championship Cut. After Round 1, the top 20  players progress to a second round, completing 36 holes for the overall championship title.

Every competitor - regardless of age, gender, amateur status, or PGA credentials - has the same chance to make the cut. Performance in Round 1 decides who advances, promising fierce competition and the chance for fresh talent to shine.

Will Major

The defending champion, amateur Will Major, will face stiff challenges from two-time event winner, PGA Pro Luke Willett, and a strong field including PGA professionals and international entrants such as France’s Emily Mollard, a LETAS Tour player.

"This year’s championship was heavily oversubscribed even with our biggest event yet - we had a reserve wait list!" says Pam Painter, of British Speedgolf. "Golfers now understand the concept of  Speedgolf: golf plus running, measured by pace and performance. We’re also attracting more runners who love golf, creating a fresh wave of competitors combining their two passions."

Speedgolf

Speedgolf’s appeal is global, with national championships held in the US, Japan, New Zealand,  Australia, Finland, France, Belgium, and Sweden - all sanctioned by the International Speedgolf Alliance (ISGA). Top players regularly travel internationally to compete, with the World Speedgolf Championships taking place every two years. The next world championship will be hosted by Golf New Zealand in Auckland, 4-5 November 2026.

"Our focus this year has been on building a strong UK squad for potential selection for New Zealand in 2026," Pam adds. "The sport is growing fast - there’s never been a better time to get involved."

Kevin Barker, Director - Golf Development - GB&I and Africa said: "The R&A is pleased to support this year’s British Speedgolf Championship. Speedgolf is a growing, new format of the sport which continues to attract players of all ages and abilities. There are wonderful physical and mental health benefits to playing Speedgolf, and we hope this year’s staging is a great success."
