You Could Play The Old Course at St Andrews For Under £50
Much concern has been expressed that the cost of rising green fees at many of our most celebrated golf courses could reduce the opportunity for those golfers who reside in this country the opportunity to experience these masterpieces, but a new initiative launched by the St Andrews Links Trust has opened the door for some.
The Drive has been introduced this year by the custodians at the renowned Home of Golf to provide limited tee times for golfers who live in Scotland to play its fabulous layouts - including the legendary Old Course - for a massively reduced fee.
Peak season green fees for the Old Course are £340, but those who successfully make it through a ballot for these times will be charged just £42.50 to play the historic 30-time Open Championship venue.

Dates are also available for the Jubilee Course (£18.75), Eden Course (£9.50) and Castle Course (£22.50), with rates also being slashed dramatically for those who are eligible and come through the draw.
For the Old Course, where there are 11 times available on the 21st of May, Scottish residents are eligible to enter two-balls in a ballot that will close on the 29th of April.
Other dates (for the Eden, Castle and Jubilee) are open for groups that include the Armed Forces, Golfers With a Disability, Emergency Services & NHS, Women (coincides with International Women’s Golf Week), Scottish Golf Club Members and Volunteers (coincides with Volunteers’ Week 2025).
We particularly like the tee times available on the Eden Course (1st of June) for Families, which requires that at least one member of the group is under the age of 18.
Neil Coulson, Chief Executive of St Andrews Links Trust, said: "As the Home of Golf, St Andrews Links Trust takes its responsibility to the sport incredibly seriously. That is why we are so excited to launch a new initiative offering golfers across Scotland the opportunity to play our historic and iconic courses at a lower price."
There are future dates to come in September and October, with eligibility for those days yet to be confirmed.
While golfers in other parts of the UK will be disappointed to see that this opportunity doesn't yet cover them, it perhaps opens the door for other possibilities in the future, with some very lucky Scottish-based golfers set to walk in the footsteps of legends and enjoy one of the real treasures that this nation possesses.
