Golfweek Recognises Fairmont St Andrews' Class

Fairmont St Andrews started 2011 in style with the five-star resort’s Torrance and Kittocks courses named in Golfweek’s Top 40 UK and Ireland Modern Courses.

The Torrance course, designed by former Ryder Cup captain Sam Torrance, is ranked 22nd in the list while its sister course, the Kittocks, came in at number 39.

It is the second year running that both of the resort’s 18-hole layouts have been recognised by the leading American magazine and follows significant investment in both courses as part of a £17m redevelopment of Fairmont St Andrews.

Golfweek produces its ‘best’ lists through its vast team of evaluators who survey thousands of courses each year. Various criteria are examined including routeing, conditioning, variety and how memorable holes are.

The accolades come as no surprise as the resort has hosted a number of high-profile events in the last year including both final qualifying for the Open Championship and the Scottish Senior Open.

Both courses offer a first-class golfing experience with dramatic cliff-top views across the bay to the town of St Andrews.
