All You Need to Know About The 2023 USA Solheim Cup Team

By: | Mon 18 Sep 2023

With the 2023 Solheim Cup now upon us, Golfshake's Derek Clements takes a closer look at Team USA led by captain Stacy Lewis.

Lilia Vu

Age: 25

World Rank: 1

Solheim Cup Record: Debut

Vu struggled and contemplated retirement. But after sticking with it, she became the first American to win multiple majors in the same year since Juli Inkster in 1999. Vu notched her maiden LPGA title in Thailand, rallying from six strokes down in the final round, and then went on to win the Chevron Championship and AIG Women’s Open, rising to No. 1 in the world.

Nelly Korda

Age: 25

World Rank: 2

Solheim Cup Appearances: 2 (2019, 2021)

Solheim Cup Record: 5-2-1

Korda comes from a sporting family - her father, Petr, is a former tennis player who won the Australian Open, her sister is also a top golfer and her brother is a professional tennis player. She has every shot in the book - and an excellent Solheim Cup record.

Allisen Corpuz

Age: 25

World Rank: 8

Solheim Cup Appearances: Debut

Corpuz only turned professional two years ago and made 17 of 21 cuts in her maiden season. She has wasted little time making an impact. She won the US Women's Open at Pebble Beach, beating Charley Hull and Jiyai Shin by three shots. She also finished in a tie for fourth at the Chevron and tied sixth at the Women’s Open. A big-time player.

Megan Khang

Age: 25

World Rank: 27

Solheim Cup Appearances: 2 (2019, 2021)

Solheim Cup Record: 1-3-2

Kang’s parents were refugees from the Vietnam War. She joined the LPGA Tour in 2016 and has kept her card ever since. Her first win came this year in her 191st start.

Jennifer Kupcho

Age: 26

World Rank: 28

Solheim Cup Appearances: 1 (2021)

Solheim Cup Record: 2-1-1

Kupcho won the Chevron Championship last year, one of three victories she enjoyed during a fabulous season but she missed the cut at four of this season’s five majors. However, she has enjoyed some consistent form.

Danielle Kang

Age: 30

World Rank: 30

Solheim Cup Appearances: 3 (2017, 2019, 2021)

Solheim Cup Record: 5-7-0

Kang qualified for the US Women’s Open when she was just 14 and won the US Women’s Amateur in 2010. The following year she played in four majors as an amateur, making the cut in three of them. Her first win as a pro came in a major, the 2017 Women’s PGA Championship. She took a break from golf in 2022 after announcing that she had a tumour on her spine but she has battled back to fitness and form to secure a fourth Solheim Cup appearance.

Andrea Lee

Age: 25

World Rank: 43

Solheim Cup Appearances: Debut

Lee is a former world number one amateur, who represented her country at the Curtis Cup, Junior Ryder Cup and Junior Solheim Cup. At the age of 14 she qualified for the Women’s US Open and made the cut. She captured her one and only LPGA title in 2022.

Lexi Thompson

Age: 28

World Rank: 21

Solheim Cup Appearances: 5 (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021)

Solheim Cup Record: 6-6-7

Thompson is not the player she was. At one point it looked like she was going to sweep all before her but she has struggled with her mental well-being. However, she has battled through it all and is one of the best ball strikers in the women’s game

Angel Yin

Age: 24

World Rank: 32

Solheim Cup Appearances: 2 (2017, 2019)

Solheim Cup record: 3-2-1

After her second Solheim appearance, she began to struggle with injuries, causing her to dial back her swing and putting her in jeopardy of losing her tour card. This year, though, Yin nearly won the Chevron in a playoff, while also recording another three top-10s, including at the Women’s Open.

Ally Ewing

Age: 30

World Rank: 34

Solheim Cup Appearances: 2 (2019, 2021)

Solheim Cup Record: 2-5-1

This will be Ewing’s third appearance, and it has to be said that she has a pretty poor record. A three-time winner on the LPGA Tour but is winless in 2023. She suffers from Type 1 diabetes.

Cheyenne Knight

Age: 26

World Rank: 44

Solheim Cup Appearances: Debut

Knight had a stellar amateur career. She has only won twice on the LPGA but one of those wins came this year and she has also had four top-10 finishes. Has a miserable record in the majors.

Rose Zhang

Age: 20

World Rank: 31

Solheim Cup Record: Debut

Last but not least. After an extraordinary amateur career, Zhang won in her pro debut, becoming the first to achieve that feat since Beverly Hanson in 1951. She then recorded three straight major championship top-10s, rising to No. 31 in the world. A fabulous prospect.
