Motocaddy S1 Electric Trolley Review

By: | Thu 24 Aug 2023

Motocaddy is one of those names synonymous with the British golfing scene. The UK company was founded in 2004 in Hertfordshire and now claims to be the world’s biggest selling electric trolley brand.

What used to be a retirement present or a gift when reaching a milestone, the electric trolley is a must have piece of equipment for golfers of all ages.

Its best seller is the S1, a model that has seen several reincarnations and improvements since it first hit the market in 2005.

The last version, which spent two years under development following feedback from users, offers a range of innovations. You can learn more about those enhancements in this video review from Golfshake's Equipment Expert Ryan Rastall.

There is an S1 DHC option which adds Automatic Downhill Control to maintain a constant speed while moving down a hill, plus all terrain DHC wheels and an electronic parking brake.

Tech Specs:

  • One Step folding system
  • CLICK ’N’ CONNECT lightweight lithium battery
  • Battery auto disconnect
  • Quick access charging port
  • Powerful whisper-quiet 230w motor
  • Full Colour LCD widescreen display
  • Nine speed controls
  • Invertible wheels
  • USB charging port
  • EasyLock compatibility

Looks:

Motocaddy S1 Trolley

The S1 is certainly a looker and any golfer who likes to appear smart will feel at home with the S1’s sleek and sporty chassis featuring red stripes giving an all-over appearance that enhances its advanced technical features.

Performance:

For many golfers the appeal of a golf trolley starts before they get to the course - the ease they fit in their car boot is a key consideration.

In the newly designed S1, Motocaddy have addressed this issue with space saving invertible wheels reducing its footprint by 16 per cent.

The chassis unfolds in one step in seconds - long gone are the days when you could trap a finger in the frame - and the wheels are easy to detach and reassemble in the golf club car park. Gone are the days of greasy axles messing up the car.

Attaching a matching bag or similar with the familiar EasyLock system is straight forward too, and once the lightweight cable-free lithium battery is clicked into place you are soon ready to get to the warm-up nets.

The true test of any electric trolley is its on-course performance and here the S1 excels - it is no wonder that this design is the world’s number one best seller of its type.

The LCD display has easy-to-read upgraded visuals and the latest model has a number of features including nine speed indicators and battery level indicator. The adjacent USB port is handy if you need to charge a compatible device.

On the move the 230w motor is virtually silent so you won’t disturb other players. Combined with the powerful motor and all season wheels, the S1 copes with slopes with consummate ease. Its oversized tubing gives impressive stability and there is never a danger of it toppling over.

At the end of the round, the battery automatically disconnects when the trolley is folded and the quick-access port allows the added bonus of onboard charging without removal.

Pros:

Easy to fold, simple set up and all over top quality performance makes this a trolley to be reckoned with.

Cons:

There is little to fault with this new design that takes into account all a golfer may need.

Bottom Line:

Motocaddy says the S1 is the easiest-to-use trolley they have ever developed and it's hard to quibble with that claim.

Its new features - particularly the cable free battery, widescreen display and one step folding are very worthwhile improvements to an already popular design.

Anybody who wants a trolley to perform its most important functions without the need for GPS will find a great deal of satisfaction here. Coupled with Motocaddy’s accessible customer service it’s hard to fault.
